4 weeks ago my Tacoma inexplicably stopped starting. Prior to this event the vehicle was immaculate. I've never had a single real issue other than rust and Toyota warrantied the entire frame! The vehicle turns over, starts for a moment then dies. Unless you turn the key to the off position the vehicle will not turn over again. The local mechanic has searched and tried everything (new fuel pump, checked countless sensors and finally sent the ECM away to be analyzed and rebuilt). He and I are totally confused. Everything we've tried has not worked. I am looking for suggestions as well as any lines of used ECMs as they are very pricey to purchase new.

Did the mechanic narrow it down to either an ignition or fuel issue?

2001 4X4 V6 Manual. The mechanic has rules out all mechanised components as periodically it will start and runs like a dream. He's tested nearly every sensor. We sent the ECM away for testing and the company that tested it said that there is nothing wrong with the ECM (but that there are situations where the ECM will test negative but still be a problem). At this point the only thing we are thinking is that it is a computer issue.

Well it will be either fuel or ignition related. You should check to see if the fuel pump is shutting off or the coil packs are losing power. Take it to a dealership which will have all the diagnostic tools to find and fix your problem.
