Took my truck over the dealership the other day, told them I have a crack in my frame and it was under coated by a Toyota dealership in 2010, they came out 15min later told me my truck was unsafe to drive and they had a rental car on its way for me, turns out there was also a crack on the other side of the frame as well. So the lady told me they were going to replace the frame and they'd call me in a month, it's really rusted under my truck, what all do they replace besides the frame?

You're so lucky it will only take a month. Mine went in for this same recall today, and I was told it was 4 months until it was done and good to go.

4 months?! Did they give you a rental car?

Does Toyota still inspect and replace frames as needed? Did it have to be treated or noted in the initial recall? I imagine if Toyota knowingly let you drive off with a bad frame and something happened they would open themselves up to quite a lawsuit?

I looked up my service history and the original owner luckily had it undercoated by them back in 2010, and with-in 15min they came out and told me it was really unsafe to drive. I had no issues with them about it. From what i've read it has to of been undercoated but them during that recall

I think it has to be "treated" for the warranty to be extended, but not positive. Luckily I had mine treated, so was a candidate for replacing, even though I had to fight pretty hard for it. The main parts are the new frame, lower control arms, leaf springs, ebrake cable and new brake lines. I purchased some 5100s and extra leaf for the rear and they added those for free. Someone sent me the list of parts included, so PM me your email and I can forward on to you if interested. Congrats!

Interesting. I have an 04' I've owned sine 2008, only 97k miles and I haven't found any rusting, but it would be interesting to see what Toyota had to say about it. If they were able to find rust but refused to fix it as a known issue, I wonder what an ambulance chaser would say about that, especially if it were documented. I never received anything from Toyota and didn't have it inspected or coated.

    Good luck with the swap.

They did a frame inspection for me but I'm also in one of the states they recall was good for, i'm pretty sure only certain states are included, wouldn't hurt to call and ask.

They'll do it on trucks that are out of warranty or even were abused. Get hopping though, this recall ends in March.

Yeah, not even rental really. I get to drive a 2016 Corolla for free until my truck is out of the shop.

they replace the frame itself and put all new body mounts as well as new leaf springs on it but that's about it. the struts and shocks get reused but if you supply new ones they almost always put them on for you for free since they had to reinstall the old ones anyway and they prefer installing new parts that go on easier then dirty old rusty ones.

I strongly suggest you sit down with them and ask these questions and get everything worked out in writing so there is no confusion or misunderstandings later. not all dealers are the same and i'll leave it at that.

I'm going to call over about installing new struts and shocks, they paid for the rental car

just remember, if you supply the parts you can shop for the best deal, if they order it, you will get the overpriced oem stuff from Toyota

if you want standard oem replacements then get them from rockauto.com and get a complete strut assembly, not just strut shock

at rockauto you can get the exact same oem brand parts the dealer will, but at half the price because it doesn't come in a Toyota box.

Just curious, my truck is an 01 with 120k miles and the frame has already been repaired previously with angle iron and flat pieces here and there welded to it. Makes me wonder if it need to get my entire frame inspected...

Take a look at my posts and photos of my 2k3 that had the frame replacement. They will do leaf springs shackles and hardware. You will probably have to buy shocks unless you hmave aftermarket stuff already.

I checked it on there, and it said that there are no open safety recalls for my truck. But, that might not include your frame needing to be inspected... Or does it? Maybe it's too late.

Sorry man, but it seems like the recall, as it says when I pull it up with my VIN, is for '05 to '11 Tacomas only.
