Looks to buy a rear bumper for my 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4wd 4door. I'm just looking for a replacement, nothing fancy. I was thinking this:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-2004-T...S-/350563684665?fits=Make:Toyota|Model:Tacoma

    or:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-2004-T...W-/111625028157?fits=Make:Toyota|Model:Tacoma

A new bumper from Toyota is ~$500 so there's no way I can do that. I'm worried about getting a crappy third part bumper or something that won't hold up. It says it's made of steel, it looks the same as my stock bumper, is there anything else I should consider before going this route? Thanks in advance.

I'm also looking but all the new aftermarket bumpers are made in taiwan, not sure how long a taiwan bumper will hold up. Hopefully someone that purchased a new aftermarket replacement bumper will chime in on its durability.

Anyone? Will a third part bumper hold up the same as one from Toyota?

they are just cheap single chrome layer jobs that start rusting as soon as you put them on. oem bumpers are triple chrome plated with much thicker layers.

the aftermarket bumpers fit ok and work ok (some have sharp edges that will slice your finder open) but I wouldn't get a chrome one because it wil be rusty in no time. get a painted one and repaint it as soon as you get it and it will last but if you want a chrome bumper, then the only smart choice is to get an oem bumper, new or used, but only an oem will last and not rust.

I have bought 3 of these aftermarket bumpers and every one was showing rust within 2 months and one did it in just a week. they are cheap!

So far south in Texas my feet are in salt water

I bought a cheap bumper off ebay about three years ago. I went with a black painted one. It mounted the same as OEM and was just as heavy duty. The old bumper was chrome OEM and was rusted thru due to backing into salt water to launch boats.
I reused the plastic pads I had on old bumper.
Don't know how chrome will hold up but they only cost $157 so....

anything not made in china is better quality then most parts and IMO Taiwan doesn't automatically signal low quality
