2003 Tacoma "restoration" New Paint

I bought this nice original 1 owner 2003 almost 3 years ago to make it my "forever" truck. Truck mainly lived in Dallas Texas so it is absolutely rust free...even the inside of the frame. I live in Houston so I did the deal, flew to Dallas, and drove it back. I did the lift (6" Fabtech /1" coil spacer up front and 6" Alcan rear springs/2" shackle) and now its being prepped for a fresh coat of Ford Racing Red paint. Yes Ford paint on my Yoda. But I love that red. Anyway, I will post updates as it goes.

Definitely a babied Taco....this is my 6th Toyota 4x4. Bought my first 83 in 1984. I did the off roading thing for years and done with it. Now I enjoy tinkering and cruising. Don't judge but with it's new paint job I will drive around water puddles. HA

 

2003 Tacoma update Nov 27th
Getting closer to shooting some red paint. The front fenders were pulled to ensure the best paint coverage and allow no taping. Most body work has been done and sanding is in final stages. Rear window and windshield should be pulled Friday.
Check out how clean the 16 year old front fenders are on the backside.

How many hours would you guess will be invested in the bodywork when its completed?.

 

Good question but I am not sure. I will ask the shop in the end. But the owner already told me he is doing more than he charged me for as he is getting in to the project and really excited how it will turn out. He's a really cool guy and has an awesome body shop. I am lucky to have the truck at his shop.

2003 Tacoma update Dec 5th
Stopped by today.....Almost time to paint some red. Just final wipe down and overspray protection left to do. I'm thinking Monday will be the day for paint. Really looking good.

 

What paint are you going with? This color of red (and white iirc) were both single stage I think. Staying with that or going to add a clear coat?

 

Going with Ford Racing Red. Used on the newer Mustangs, F150s, Focus.... Also going with a clear coat final coat.

 

Lookin good man, can’t wait to see how it turns out.

2003 Tacoma update Dec 9th
Great way to start the week....I'm seeing RED. And I mean RED...it is bright. If you love red, you will love the final result. If you hate red, this truck will make your eyes bleed. Can't wait to see it all come together.
