i have had it since new and it now has 115k miles on it and the place that does all the service on it since new said the rear shocks are leaking and need replaced. I can feel it and no that is correct. He said for me to get the shocks from Lexus and bring them in next oil change and they will replace. He said they are expensive. I called Lexus dealer and they said per shock it was $757 plus tax. So 2 rear shocks will be $1650 not counting install. I fell over. The fronts i went ahead and checked on them and they are like $370 per shock plus tax so like $800 and that doesnt included install. Im not good at this but any suggestions for this will cost like $2800 installed after i buy the shocks if i do front and back. Or if i do just rear it will be like $1850.00

Classic. Dealer. Markup. Simple as that!

My local Toyota dealer tried to charge me almost $1,700 for replacing the front calipers, pads, and rotors on my 2010 Taco this past March...

Luckily, my friend gave them a piece of his mind and got several hundred dollars knocked off the price!

You should find out. Easy way to tell is if there is a hydraulic line going in to each of your shocks.

they are not XREAS, they are a Lexus electronic adjustable damper. Standard 03-09 4runner shocks will bolt in, though you'll lose the functionality of the adjustable ride.

I installed 07-09 FJ bilstein 6112 front coilovers and 03-09 4runner 5160 rear shocks for just over $1k on my GX.

If you used run of the mill 4Runner KYB dampers from rock auto it would cost $40/each rear shock and $100/each front coilover for a total of roughly $280 dollars to replace all 4 corners.

The GX470 is the Land Cruiser Prado 120 and the 4Runner/FJ is based off the Prado 120 chassis. Thus, the 4runner and FJ are actually technically based on the GX470, not the other way around. the vast majority of mechanical parts are interchangeable.

KDSS is a sway bar system, not shock system. KDSS doesn't have an impact for dampers.

yeah. I just called back. The kinetic suspension is why. $757.53 per shock on rear plus tax and $367.81 per shock on front. Wow!! Just because something to do with the part that it can raise and lower on air for entering and exiting if used which we never have used that.

ok. ill ask the guys at the shop if they can get the same ones you did. I do not need the adjustable ride. $280 opposed to $2400 is huge. Did it change the ride quality

yeah the only problem is that the bilstein 6112 coilovers for the 4runners are on a huge back order from bilstein directly... No one has them in stock. Maybe just do your rear shocks for now with the 5160 and replace the front coilovers later when they are back in stock?

as far as any other options, you don't have to look for a GX470 specific kit. literally any 03-09 4runner shock set will bolt in. Just make sure you use 4runner top hat strut mounts for the front if the ones you buy do not come fully assembled. The GX470 has a slightly different shaped washer (the main one under the top mounting nut) for mounting the electronic shock controls. the GX470 washer will not fit the 4runner shocks unless you dremel/drill it out. The GX470 washer has a D shaped hole and the 4runner shocks need a full circle hole. I just dremeled mine out. It's really not that big of a deal.

to avoid the small washer issue, I would just buy the front 6112 from Wheelers and have them pre-assemble them. Then it's literally 4 bolts to put them in the GX. here are the rear shocks: and for reference, This Bilstein combination

n is essentially what the 4runner TRD Pro has from the factory. The TRD specific parts have slightly different valving to meet Toyota requirements. Bilstein engineer I've spoken with insists that their aftermarket valving is better for off road than the Toyota factory valving.
