There was a recall on the 04 taco frames and they'll replace it for free. Are 04 owners still eligible to replace frames? Or has it been expired?

I believe they will replaced the frame as long as the truck is under 15 years old. You have to take it to a dealer for an inspection. If it fails they will not let you drive off the lot and will replace the frame

Toyota will only replace the frame due to very specific conditions. It was not a recall, it was an extended service warranty campaign.

Your truck will only have the frame replaced if it’s within the 15 year in service date and if it meets the following:
    • Undercoated by Toyota previously
    • Spent time in certain U.S. ‘Salt Belt’ States
    • Have at least a dime sized rust hole in the Frame
    • Fail frame safety inspection by Toyota
Toyota won’t replace the frame for everyone, even for people with completely rusted out frames. 1995-2000 trucks were bought back and crushed while 2001-2004 trucks had the frame replaced. At this point only few 2003 trucks and 2004 trucks are still eligible.

This requirement is only applicable if the truck was in one of the "cold weather states". I don't know how Toyota determines this.
There is no requirement that a truck have been in one of the cold weather states. All trucks qualify without regard to where they lived. As I mentioned just above, if the truck *was* in a cold weather state then it also has to have been inspected and sprayed by a certain date (I don't know exactly what that date was and I won't speculate).
Right. The warranty is for 15 years from date of first use. This date can be determined by plugging your VIN into Toyota's VIN decoder.

Make an apt. with a Toyota dealer. If you meet the other requirements then you should be good.

You'll just have to call toyota and open a claim, schedule an appt with local dealer and give them claim #, then wait.

If you were in any of the cold weather states (CT DE IL IN KY MA MD ME MI NH NJ NY OH PA RI WI WV VA VT DofC) at the time of the deadline (2010-2011) for the Toyota applied undercoating, and did not have it undercoated, you have no warranty. No exceptions.

EDIT: Make the call and find out for sure. It costs nothing. Do not mention the word recall when asking about the 15 yr extended warranty on the frame. There was never a recall on the frame.

Went to Toyota today and they accepted my truck. Need to go back to sign papers for the rent a car.

Fantastic! Where are you located? Was it a cold climate truck?

Edit: All trucks were covered, but warm climate trucks did not have to have the undercoating.

I meet the first requirement but don’t think I’m quite at the dime size hole yet and this haven’t brought my truck in for frame inspection in awhile- they looked at it in 2015 and said it was fine. Since then it’s gotten way worse but still not at the dime size hole level. I’d like to have it looked at soon but am afraid if they inspect and pass it, my plan B won’t work.

    Plan b is....
If I were to... “speed” the rusting process along until I get a hole, do you think they’d honor it? Next May is 15 years from service date, and I absolutely love this truck but I’m afraid it’s going to fall apart a year or to after the 15 year mark.

I'd bring it in again and see what they say.
