    Hello Everyone,
I have a 2004 Tacoma V6 Prerunner that has the TRD package. It has the rear differential lock on it, but I am looking for more. Is it possible to change a 2wd to a 4wd? What would it take and how much would it cost? I am trying to figure out which would be cheaper to do. I can sell my current Tacoma and buy a 4x4, or make my current truck(which I love) a 4x4. Let me know!

Most of the time it is much more difficult to make a 4x2 into a 4x4 than just trading them out (figuratively speaking of course). I helped a buddy make his 92 Suburban into a 4x4, and it was no easy feat. That isn't to say that it can't be done! It can! It just takes a ton of time and a ton of patience to get it done right. I would go the trade route and just get a 4x4, but with the options you want. You can still find an excellent 2004 4x4 in tons of places (if that is the year you want to stick too...)

    GOOD LUCK!!! :D

Too complicated and expensive. Trade it in for a 4X4.

On the up side, when you do the change yourself you get it set up the way you want it from the get go, no need to mod a mod.;) A friend of mine says it wouldn't be that hard to do but it would take a while. It can be done but if you want to go the easier way....well that's probably a good idea.

research first then make the decision. if you have time and another vehicle to spare by all means do it but if you have money saved up for a new one well then i say weigh your options. oh and don't forget to find good, experience and well-trusted mechanics in your area. hope this helps

either add a transfer case and do a solid axel swap or you could find a wrecked 4x4 and scavenge the front drive train. it would probably be better to just trade it in. or you can add a detroit trutrac lsd for superior traction thats better than the e-locker all the time.

:amen: i want one too, so i can have both wheels pushing instead of one. more traction, better acceleration and i could get sideways around turns easier :puke: . almost forgot the donuts and leaving these on the road ============== instead of these ______________
