Beaver, Magnuson is releasing the supercharger (with tweaks, a few hardware design changes and software upgrades) for the 4.0l in the next few months (I discussed it with Magnuson at the show and confirmed it with LCE weeks back). Proper airflow matters, with or without the s/c. Safari apparently just invested heavily in new airflow metering equipment. I'm interested in this snorkel to pair with the new Magnuson S/C. Aesthetics are secondary to that. I'm not offended by the size whereas I'd be offended by Safari restricting size for aesthetics when they had knowledge that doing so would restrict proper airflow.

The guy I spoke with claims they drove a Cummings dodge over the snorkel and that it popped right back to shape...so that combined with uv resistant plastic means that it doesn't just flow well but that it also will perform well smacking into limbs and such on the trail and will look good for a number of years b/c the plastic won't fade.

I didn't inquire about material thickness. You might be right about it being larger to match the look of the truck, I dunno.

@cruiseroutfit can you comment on any concerns or facts about the current issues with the retrofit snorkel and the 2nd gen Tacoma?
any reason to not buy the retrofit snorkel? [currently not running a S/C]
is it worth the added $200+

    edit: re-worded my last question

    Check out the build
Unless you think it looks bad because it's big or because of price, I don't see a reason not to buy.

I want to make it clear that I'm not knocking the retrofit. I know a few folks running them, they've had zero issues. I'm simply waiting to buy the version built for the 2nd gen taco and am not averse to the larger look of the snorkel.

The airflow is discontinued IIRC. For me it's a matter of waiting until I can buy something that will 100 percent work no questions asked with my S/C for a long time. I was really tempted to try the Hilux eBay cheapy snorkels but for me it's not worth the risk, even if it's slight.

Fair question and one for which I probably don't have a great answer. Because I'm in Vegas and work in the trade show industry I happened thru the ARB booth in 2013 when they told me that a Tacoma specific snorkel was coming. I considered it (airflow) and at about the same time I think there were some supply/service issues with orders. I wasn't in a hurry. Then last year I saw the ARB version...and still I wait. LOL (or something about like that)

Gotcha. Appreciate both the honesty and maturity of your answer, cause I wasn't trying to ask in a rude tone.. Writing is so hard to convey how things are supposed to sound.

Sure, I'll echo my previous comments. We have many customers running SC'd Tacoma's with the "small body" snorkels of the olden days (such as the SS170 for the 96-04 and the SS135MOD for the 05-15) including myself. I put over 130k on a SC'd 2004 with the SS170 and drove a heavily built and loaded SC'd 2014 to Panama (same truck has been from Prudhoe Bay, AK to the Darien Gap in South America). Zero issues. That isn't saying the increased airflow of the new Airmax models won't be beneficial, just that there were zero rich/lean or notable performance issues with the older models.

I'm just going to leave this right here :)

I installed this the day before sema in this exact spot lol people were looking at me like a crazy person drilling holes in the fender.

Installation was actually super simple with the directions and template. Just had to work up the nerve to do the first cut.

A few have asked for another round of the group buy price on the SS135MODR...

Its official a 3-day SS135MODR sale kicking off this next Monday

So you have Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday to call in your order (no dibs, as soon as we have your payment info you're in line) and we ship them from there. If we have more interest than we have snorkels, we'll back order those customers and process their card and ship as they come into stock. If there is still want/need again... We can do a second 3 day deal in a few months.

We currently have the SS135MODR (be clear, this is the existing model that take minor mods) snorkels on a "New Low Price" offering of $335.50. Group buy 3-day sale price is $305 + shipping.

From what I was told by ARB at SEMA is that these are all in transit to the states right now and will be available to purchase in Dec-Jan timeframe. I was just lucky enough to get the first production model which they brought with them on the airplane as checked baggage to get it to SEMA in time.
