    They make a rear disc conversion for the 2nd gen and it is half the cost of the S.O.S kit ($1500) and right now it is only $500 the only thing you lose is your e brake. I use it every time I park but its just a habit I usually don't need it. What is the negative if losing my e brake.

    Where I live its flat and most people don't activate them so there fine the brakes would also be stronger as in stop better.

    Did you already upgrade your front brakes? You will get much more performance out of something out front.

    I do realize this but they don't have anything for the front brakes. This kit is on a pretty big discount right now and a rear disc conversion has always been on my future mod list.

    I do tow a good bit and my brakes also just are not the best.

    Aside from the safety issues, it'll put more strain on your trans if you have an auto.

    I agree with the above that front brakes is a more worthwhile mod than the rear.

    Definitely a awesome deal for someone wanting to do the swap. Though the SOS and TG kits have a few differences which is why there is price difference.

    I do get this but if there a good bit better than drums I would rather get them than spend 1500 on the best rear brakes when I could do mid travel for that money.

    Don't you have a 4th gen which has rear disc brakes? I don't know if you know what 2nd gen brakes are like.

    I also own a 2010 2nd gen and yes the brakes aren't great but the rear disk conversion won't make much difference. Not worth the cost imo

    If you only change the rear brakes into dish conversion kit you will be disappointed because it does not make it better only make it look better because to feel it you upgrade the brakes you need to start from front brakes. Trust me I was about to buy SOS kit but still you need to upgrade your MC and Booster brake to feel the rear conversion brakes. My opinion don't buy less then SOS kit, definitely you will need e brake someday.

    After you swap MC and booster plus upgrade your front brake from 4runner you may to hold the rear conversion kit.

    OP I urge you, go out in a safe straight stretch of road, paved and unpaved. with ABS off, forcibly roll into the brakes.... which wheels lock up first? In both conditions I guarantee the rears lock up first in their stock form. Never understood why people are so hot to do a rear disc conversion. Do upgrades to the front brakes (4 runner larger calipers / rotors conversion if you have 17in rims)


    If you are towing to the point of having braking problems you need trailer brakes. PERIOD. My truck towing/loaded with 4500lbs of trailer n stuff in the bed stops just as good as empty with proper trailer brakes.

    Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
    I have the SOS setup. I originally had no E-brake but had to get the E brake setup later. State inspection required E-brake. I also have GX460 brakes up front with Tundra booster. I actually have the rear brake conversion which most commenting do not. I also have a solid 700 additional lbs hanging over the rear axle providing additional weight for traction increasing the rear braking performance for 37s.

    Rear Cap, DCLB, coated in bedliner
    Dual swing out high clearance rear with 15 gal of liquid and spare 37
    3x 100w solar panels on top of cap
    Bedslide and 33 gal long range fuel tank.

    Yeh, I'm at around 6000lbs per the CAT scale (and that was on 37's, I'm on 40's now). And even after the SOS front BBK and Tundra booster, I felt the need to do the rear SOS kit. It's been about 6 months, and I've been impressed with stopping performance since the change.
