Walking the dog a few days ago, found my next project. I have a few changes and modifications in mind for the design though.

Headed out to one of the local desert shooting holes nice and early this morning, a brisk 27 degrees and windy.
Spent about two hours scouring for brass over a few of the popular spots tracking shooting patterns and ended up with 122 - 9mm (+1 live round), 22 - .223, 3 - 5.56 and a couple of .45's .380's and one .40 S&W.

Not too shabby! I need to take a rake next time to help agitate the dirt, I found a lot sifting through with my hands that way.

I've got another spot to go check out, maybe tomorrow or Monday.

Found the plastic bricks in good shape too, just needed a wash.

Master cylinder started leaking into my brake booster. I ordered a Tundra booster from LKQ and a new master from RockAuto. I picked up the miscellaneous bits from a local shop and made some hard patch lines to convert from the Tacoma M10x1 inverted to the Tundra M12x1 inverted.

The M10x1 and M12x1 inverted fittings were a bit difficult to find locally. I didn't really feel like ordering them offline if I didn't have to.

My father-in-law gave me a cool old flaring kit, it's just missing the little adapter bits to make the double flares. I had some of those from an old harbor freight set that is missing other parts.

I should have the rest of the parts by next week.

Nice read sir. It seems like this car is giving you a lot of good service and you’re treating it well.

Thank you, it has been great so far! I don’t mind the projects along the way, gives me the opportunity to work on it and to sneak in upgrades when I can.

My brakes decided to stop working well the other day, I tracked it to the MC leaking into the booster.

So I did a Tundra Brake Booster and Master Cylinder upgrade. It was a little frustrating because I kept getting negative measurements for the booster pushrod to master cylinder clearance.

I measured everything again to double check and then triple checked those and I guess I had the wrong numbers before because I ended up with a .020 gap four times. Good enough for me.

Popped right in place! Some reports said they almost took a hammer to the fender to install it but I didn’t have any issues with it.

Tube bends could have been better but I was just a bit on edge at that point

Welded up the clevis bracket, it wasn’t perfect but who’s going to see it. Aside from the public pictures I’m posting here.

I tried to get a picture of the fluid inside the old booster but it was a weird angle. It was just about a pint and a half in there!

I love this thread! Just found my own 05 cclwb in black with a leer. Really appreciate your thoroughness and relatable upgrades. But you must know all the spedo corrections you did can be accomplished by dividing original tire diameter/new tire diameter.

    30.5/31.6=.965 or 3.5% correction

:facepalm:Clearly I still overthink things. I did not realize that

I appreciate the love, and a first comment no less! Welcome to TacomaWorld!
Congratulations on finding your truck as well, owning mine has been a good experience.

I like to keep modifications relatively simple and functional, I hope there’s some useful information on here for you!

As much as I would like to get newer headlights, I have unfortunately, exhausted my truck budget for a little while. I do appreciate that offer though.

With 108 degrees of summer already beginning here in West Texas I decided to finally fix my leaky low pressure schrader valve.

Picked up a gauge set and vacuum pump from Harbor Freight, cheap and effective.
Pulled -30 with the pump and the system held it for an hour. I’m just doing the final vacuum before hooking up the 134.

My father-in-law has two manifold sets that I was hoping I could use but they’re both R12 sets. The hoses look like they’ve seen better days too.

    Lookin good Chas!

I saw your comment about welding stainless and having trouble with it warping. You might try turning things down some, from what ive found, stainless requires about half the heat as mild steel requires. Your welds are already looking really good though!

The parts guy gave me the wrong valve, for R1234yf instead of R134 so it wouldn’t fit the can. I just didn’t notice the number on the package. Also tried an older one I had handy but the seals were shot.
Got that returned and sorted with the proper valve. Picked up some oil just in case, PAG 46 according to this,

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rl-897-a-c-compressor-oil-my-pain-your-gain.240794/

Had a big can of that fancy AC Pro Freon but the valve with the bad seals jacked it up and it dumped the whole can. That sucked.

I got it all sorted though, it’s cool now!

    Thank you!

I thought it might be something like that, I haven’t been able to do much welding recently so I didn’t mess with it more.
I imagine it would help to have a stainless steel specific spool of wire too. Although the wire I have been using seemed to do pretty well all things considered.

We’re in the process of finding a new house, currently staying with my in-laws. Once that’s figured out I’ll have some more time to fiddle around.
