    Hellow everyone, I need help.
I bought a tacoma 4x4 with 150k miles on it. I bought in Utah and I live in San Diego and I just see the truck in pictures, I was wondering if the engine or transmission can be good or bad with that mileage.
And if I can change the transmission oil and diff oil too..
    Thanks for your help..

Hi Josh. I'm in Lakeside. My Taco is approaching 150K and I've done all the maintenance myself. If the proper maintenance was performed, the car should purr like a kitten. Of immediate concern should be passing CA smog.
This is a non-gov site, but info appears up to date and they have A+ BBB rating: http://www.dmv.org/ca-california/smog-check.php

Yes, ATF can be changed but Toyota does not make it easy for DIY'ers because they took out the ATF dip stick. They have a more elaborate procedure for measuring the fluid level. There are two well-read threads on the subject. And I can help - I've flushed mine twice, as well as the wife's Lexus which has the same procedure. Diff is easy. There's a thread for that also.

ODNAREM, I went to a toyota dealer to run the Vin number of the tacoma, and they told me, they didn't see any history in the truck.
Probably I have to wait and see how it runs the truck. Thanks

Chuy thank you for ur info and help. BTW do u think I should do the transmission oil change if they last owner never done it before?
Cause I don't wanna destroy it.

Also, I was wondering, how much a 2006 tacoma v6 4x4 transmission cost?
    Thanks everyone. .

If you don't know past tranny maintenance history, it's best to assume it has not been serviced. The precaution issue is to avoid a full flush because the detergent agents in fresh ATF may dislodge too much crud, adversely affecting the tranny innards. It's best to do 2-3 drain/refills with about 2K miles in between. Then change or clean the filter at the final drain/refill and do a flush.

I have no idea how much a tranny costs.
