    New truck. Mods to come!
I don't know about up east but a ton of the body shops around here do rust removal/prevention. You can try your luck there if you don't want to get down and dirty yourself. As far as logging complaints go, I'd do it. My dealership has a few complaints from when I first bought my truck and it hasn't gone unnoticed. It's worked in my favor a few times!:p

I have an oil change coming up, I will do it then.

SOB. I was wondering why I got such a good "deal" on the truck from the dealership

It is very frustrating, rust proofing a frame is not regular maintenance, if you think it is you have too much free time on your hands.
Ive considered ditching my taco, possibly for something else when the dealers have year end sales for 2013's
Mine is not as bad as yours but it has some rust, i livein north east as well.

Holy crap. Thats probably the most I've seen on a 2nd gen.
Even my '98 4runner that spent 200k miles of its life around lake Tahoe has about 1/4 that much rust under it!

My brother in law's 05 was FAR worse than this 2 years ago. He was too lazy to fix it and his mechanic undercoated it. Right over the rust without doing any prepwork.... My first 05 was pretty bad too and I did the wire wheel and rust bullet on it. It held up pretty good. The 96 I had last year I used Eastwood internal frame coating and their rust encapsulator topcoated with rubberized rust encapsulator. The inside coating appeared to have worked from what I saw but everywhere that was exposed to road spray was bare rust by spring. I'm going to try KB coatings stuff on my current truck. And then fluid film it in the fall. And that one guy that got a new frame wasn't a special case. There isn't any kind of campaign yet from Toyota but the dealer I use for parts has already replaced frames on a few second gens. It may be ugly but if it does rust out Toyota will ultimately stand behind it. Maybe they'll start dipping frames in real paint again! The frame on my 89 looks just as good as the one on my 05.

Looks like it was sitting in a salt mine. I'd unfortunately have to give it a 10. Scrape and spray some undercoat or paint.

The funny thing is a salt mine would probably be essentially rust-free! Salt is a powerful desiccant, and you can't have rust without water.

WOW, but this isnt the first 2nd gen I have seen like this, not mine, but I met a member a year ago and sold him my nerf bars and his frame looked like that, he was from PA.

Pretty much all truck frames after 6 years in the New England winters look like that. In NE that's an 4.

    Nothing yet
Get that angle grinder going then put a good coat of paint on it, then buy cans of fluid film and coat the entire frame and underbody.... My 06 hardly has any rust, and what little I did have I used the grinder w/wire brush attachment and cleaned it all then painted it, and coated w/ fluid film...

Looks like it doesn't have the frame cancer next to the exhaust, it's still pissing me off though, I'll drop it off at the dealer to make sure they document it before I fix anything. Assuming i dont do anything I'll give this truck one more season, maybe 2 before holes start appearing

Hey hey, my my.... Rust never sleeps.....

I bought two cans of Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protectant to spray on the frame- it comes out thin, but after the solvent evaporates, it gets pretty thick and waxy. I've used POR and Chassis Black things before, but if there is any humidity in the air when applied, or the frame has a hint of moisture, it seems like you are trapping this under the coating and it will continue to rust and flake off. Not the most environmentally sound, but growing up on a farm, we used the oil from oil changes and a paint brush to undercoat the trucks. It worked well, but had to be done 1-2 times per year.

Not sure how much good it's going to do yet but I got the dealer to put on a spray-on undercoating before I picked up my 2013 Tacoma.

    That's an 8.5...even for Mass.

I'd make no mention of it to a dealer and consider trading it if possible.

Unless you plan on doing a complete frame off resto, you're
only slightly delaying the inevitable with after treatments at this point.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Just went in a week or so ago for inspection at the dealer. It didnt pass due to frame rot.I was pretty pissed and the dealer said he will do everything he could for me and he came through today by telling me Toyota is going to replace my frame.
And I will know Monday if they are going to give me a rental to use.Ive gotta say Toyota is stepping up for me and I believe this will be a start to a recall coming.
Im up in the northeast .Its a 2005 also
