I have a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 4.0 auto. I put a motor in it and now the transmission will not work. It has a p2714 pressure control solenoid D performance or stuck off. It will not move in any gear. It seemed fine until I pulled it out of the shop. After about 500 yards it threw the code and shut the engine down. It now starts fine but will not move.

Alright! Someone else with this code like me, but you're having a different affect. I'm assuming that's the only code that is displayed? How many miles are on the transmission? Has it ever had a fluid or filter service? There could be debris circulating with the fluid and not being captured by the filter that is obstructing proper operation of the solenoid. Did you have any sort of flare shifting before motor replacement? Flare meaning it would shift, but seem to slip from the sound of the engine rpms dropping during the shift.

When you move the shifter through the PRND432L range, does the dash illuminate the correct position in relation to where the shifter is?

My truck, an 06 4x4 auto also, was originally throwing the 2714 code, and now it's throwing a 2716 code, both relate to the shift d solenoid. Only difference is that my truck still moves with either code present, but shifts harsh. Shift solenoid D, aka SLT solenoid, controls line pressure during operation providing "smooth" shifts between gears.

Also, depending on your mileage, have you done any sort of maintenance in reguards to the MAF, or air filter? Since youve had the motor replaced, make sure the coolant temp sensor is hooked up properly along with any other engine sensor connections like the throttle body. The ECU takes input from various engine sensors, and also the speed sensors, to determine the shift behavior of the transmission. It's possible that something may be not giving the ECU the info it needs to tell the transmission to complete the user requested function. Make sure to check the wiring harness that runs to the transmission, and that it is firmly pluged into the transmission, including the shift control plug. There's the main solenoid harness on the driver's side, just above the transmission pan around where the ujoints are on the front drive shaft. Then there's the shift selection control box on the passenger side of the transmission also. Make sure the connections there are secure and free of corrosion.

    TL;DR
Here's a quick read that describes how and what the 2714 code can affect specific to the a750 transmission used in the 4.0 tacomas, along with some simple checks to narrow down where the trouble is causing the related code.

I did check all of the plugs and pins on the transmission and they were fine. I used the harness that was on the motor I put in the truck. I drove the truck I took the motor out of into the shop with no problems. The transmission has 180000 miles on it. I never drove the truck I bought it with a bad motor. It was a daily driver before the motor died. I did change the transmission fluid during the motor change. I got it up to temp for the level check like it calls for. Since the code I cannot get it to temp like it is not circulating.

Broken pump or low on fluid are my best guesses.
Engine has to be running to check the fluid once the transmission gets to temp .

When I changed the fluid I crossed the two pins in the diagnostic plug and waited on it to reach temp then finished adding fluid till it ran out the overflow plug. It seemed fine while running in the shop. It seemed to pull in all gears until I pulled it out of the shop. I used the type of fluid it called for but it was not Toyota brand I used Valvoline. Would this cause the pump to fail. Thanks for the information

Nope , Valvoline fluid is a quality product . It will not cause your pump to fail .
Have you tried 4x4 low gear to get the truck moving ?

I guess a quick way to tell if the pump is broke is by pulling the feed line to the transmission cooler off and start the truck . If you have no flow , you are very very low on fluid or your pump isnt working .

I didn’t have any problem getting the transmission in or bolting to the flex plate. I have not tried it in low range but I will try tomorrow. It seemed to pull fine for about 500 yards out of the shop then nothing. I do have the transmission out of the truck that the motor came from. Do you think that would be my best bet to get it on the road and call the transmission in it a boat anchor.

I will also pull the line and check it. This is my first time working with the 4.0. I have always had the 22r and re’s.

At this point , you need to do a little more testing before we call it a boat anchor hehe .
Double check the fluid level and remove a cooling line when the truck is running to see if you have fluid flow as well as shifting the transfer case into 4 low .
Gotta start with the basics and a little process of elimination
Here is some reading to keep you busy until you get back at the truck .

I started the truck and pulled the line before it went into the cooler. It had no flow barely a drip. When I filled the transmission I did cross the pins and get it up to temperature. I had a small amount dripping from the overflow tube. I checked it again today and I cannot get it up to temp like it is not circulating. I pulled the overflow plug again with it running and fluid is poring out. Would that possibly be because it is not circulating. I also tried it in low range and no movement in any gear. It seems that the RPM will drop around 100 RPMS when changing from neutral to any gear. Just a guess looking at the factory tac.

I hate to say it but it sounds like a broken transmission pump from the symptoms you are describing .
If you cant get cooler flow , the transmission pump is not pumping any fluid
From here , we verify that the transmission is set to the proper fluid level with the truck running .
If the fluid is pooring out of the overflow with the truck running , you can almost bet the pump is broken or the pressure regulator ( SLT ) is stuck closed .
Now before I jump to conclusions , the proper way to diagnose a completely computer controlled transmission is by scanning for codes and as mentioned by bobsuruncle , he has some great suggestions regarding the slt solenoid . If the solenoid gets stuck closed , you get " zero " movement in forward gears .

@Ttrucks3, did you switch ecu's also for the motor swap? @gearcruncher if he swapped ecu's wouldn't he also need to initialize the transmission to the ECU?

Yes , he would need to initialize but even if he didnt , the truck would still move in reverse
Edit : reverse is completely mechanical ......no computer controls .
That being said , I am going with a broken pump until he does some additional diagnostics
Before he starts the truck , there is a bunch of fluid in the pan . When he starts the truck , the transmission pump supplies oil to all the forward ranges as well as reverse making all the gear choices readilly available .
If you check the fluid level with the truck turned off , fluid poors out the oveflow .
This is why it is imperative you check the fluid level with the engine running

I didn’t change the ecu. If I put the transmission from the doner truck that the motor came from should I change the ecu. Both trucks are 2006 excab. When I checked the fluid the last time it came out the overflow just like it was not running.

No reason to change the ecu . Both transmissions are identical
Was the transmission and engine you swapped out from the same year ?
OOPS !! I see now that both transmissions are the same year ...My bad

I finally got it checked with a good scanner. It isn’t good news. I pulled the transmission out today. I see what the problem is but I am not sure how it happened. The ears were broke off the pump. There was a wear mark around the back of the transmission where the torque converter rubbed it. There was also a sleeve that was stuck on the end of the converter. When I put the transmission in the converter was all the way back. I don’t know if I could have pulled it sideways a little when I tightened the converter bolts. I have started putting the other transmission in today but I will have to finish it hopefully tomorrow. I am a little concerned because I am not sure what I did wrong.
