I would go with the 2013 for peace of mind (with factory warranty) ... unless you have the $$$ to fix the 2007 if it breaks + I don't want to buy a wrecked truck.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
If you are able, go with the new. SR5 is a much better platform than O/R if you get the mod virus sometime in the future. As far as the tranny goes, you have to train yourself how to drive it properly. It sounds like you are pretty good with a manual, so you will pick it up quick

I think the 2007 truck would be overpriced by US standards, but appear to be a deal because Canadian new Toyota prices are stupid high. (Damn $51K 4Runners.) Go through used Tacoma listings in Washington state, find a good truck without accidents, and import it yourself.

I would have to import one, and most American car dealerships wont sell new cars to Canadian's.

There are ways around that and a few threads on it in the Canada regional section

The dealers refuse to sell to Canadians for a very good reason - because Toyota has directed them not to, so Toyota can continue to charge higher prices in Canada. It is in your advantage to circumvent Toyota's protectionist measures.

An extreme example is the RAV4, which is built in Ontario. Toyota charges $1640 destination fee if you purchase it in Ontario, and only $845 if you purchase one in California.
