    My transfer case actuator took a bad hit and quit working. Finally figured out motor was damaged. I purchased a new OEM actuator and installed. Everything working fine now. Thank Goodness!

    How did the install go? Seems as if the transfer case needs to removed, case split to replace such a part? Or is the motor separate nowadays and then timed ?

    You remove the inspection cover(triangle shaped cover with 3 bolts holding it on). There is a small gear that connects the actuator motor to the shaft coming out of the transfer case. It’s sitting flush right under the cover. Slide it out. It’s a little difficult to get out because you can’t hardly see it. 90 degree needle nose pliers help. Once you get the gear out remove the 3 bolts holding the actuator to transfer case. Rotate it down slightly and pull the old actuator off. Slide the new one on the shaft bolt up and slide the gear back on the shaft. You may have to loosen the three bolts a wiggle it a little to get the gear back on. My truck was in 2 high when the damage occurred and when I finished and plugged back in it was all good. No timing issues. I couldn’t find much info at all on this. I was blessed and it all works great now. Hope this helps someone.

    Yeah, I’m still looking for information on the timing.
    Just in case someone else need to time the new one.
    If anyone knows the range limits let me know.

    Just saw the question on timing. I couldn’t find any info on timing at all. I searched everywhere. Everything I read said you have to split transfer case. I bought an OEM actuator from overstock Toyota from Lakeland Toyota in Florida. Ordered it on line for little over $900. Local dealership in Mississippi wanted $1600. I installed it like the previous post said and it worked perfectly. I was totally relieved that it did. There are 5 switches on it. Two that the transfer case rod makes and 3 that are made when the motor moves the transfer case position. If you find any info on timing please tag me I would love to know. TIA.

    The confusing part to me is the locations marked.
    I understand that the resting places are only on 2 contact strips.

    Is this correct?

    4Lo = just left of 12 o’clock
    4Hi = 4 o’clock
    2WD = 10 o’clock

    The blue and yellow is confusing me a bit.

    This is what it is. That image confused me as well when I was dealing with this.

    How did you get the gear to pop out? I’ve been unable to with 90° pliers and 45° no matter how hard I’ve tried. The gear is now pretty chewed up and I need the damn thing to come out.

    If your gear isn’t intact you may need a new one but yours seems oddly stuck, mine came out with a simple needle nose pliers. All I had to do was get on the inside ring and in between 2 teeth and out it came. I’d try wiggling it or getting it to move in some type of way to make sure it’s not stuck in place to the shaft or motor assembly.
