I just bought a 2009 Tacoma Double Cab TRD Sport and I notice the ticking noise when driving. There is no ticking at idle. I notice it when I go over 25mph at around 1500 to 2500rpm. Went to the dealer and they don't seem to hear the ticking that I hear. Said everything seems normal. Anyone with a 2009 have the same problem? It is just annoying that I know its there. Nothing too loud but its there. I usually have the radio on and can't hear it. I just installed the True Flow XDI intake and can't barely hear the tick but its still there. I just want to know if anyone else has the same problem.

Where is this coming from? I have a buzzing noise coming from my passenger side of the dash, dealer said it found some loose wiring and fixed it but it's still there, I have to take it back again... Dammit!

somewhere in the engine. I don't hear it at idle. Only when driven. It's a ticking and not a buzzing. yours is probably different. Its so strange. Its a light annoying ticking I hear. I hope its normal

I've got it as well (the ticking sound). Been a while since I had a toyota, but I do seem to remember this from my last few fuel injected ones. Seems a bit louder this time however, maybe it is because I am coming off of a Honda. Don't really hear it on idle, just when accelerating up hills and such.

5100's all around, fronts at 1.75". TSB leaf pack + Toytec TSB AAL
Mine has it. Picked it up with 48 miles on it, has just over 1200 on it now. Same noise. Sounds healthy when I step on it, but moderate load just short of making the tranny downshift makes the ticking the most apparent. From what I've read, its considered normal.

Absolutely perfectly stated. WHen the engine is under modest load right before you cause it to downshift.

2009 here. Hecho en Mexico. Has made the noise from Day 1.

I talked to a tech and he called me back saying it had something to do with the LIFTERS?????? I know my pushrod motors well but I was kinda under the impression DOHC motors don't have lifters. ANyway, I tuned out when he said that and just told him to give me a brand new truck on the lot and let me drive it to see if it has the same noise. If so, I will shut up. We climbed in a brand new truck just like mine and, you guessed it, it made the same noise. I know it is not an exhaust leak but that is what it sounds like. Sounds like shit. Sounds like an unhealthy engine. Irritates the hell outta me.

many people call it "lifter tick", even I do. The valve design of the Toyota Tacoma engines is a Shim under bucket. There is no way to presisely adjust them to where they are completely quite. SO, the ticking from them, combined with the fuel injectors, and the emissions purge system, make these engine pretty noisey ticking wise. :) Its all perfectly normal.

My 2009 has it, was made in Mexico. Dealer said it was the timing chain adjusters and that it was normal. My 1984 Volvo with 265,000 mile makes less noise. Not real pleased with Toyota.

My "Tacoma Tick" quieted down a little when I switched from 87 to 91 octane. It's still there though, and I don't give a shit as long as it's a normal tick.
