If you hadn't owned a Toyota before and you think the 'ticking' is new, you obviously didn't do your homework.

Every Toyota truck i have had chattered, or 'ticked' as you say, and the others stood the test of time and i expect no different from this one. I keep buying em' and they keep lasting.

It is a common characteristic of the truck and has been for many years.

09 2.7l . Slight ticking from top of engine. Took it to the dealership the next day, they said it was normal for the fuel injectors to do it... I didn't like that answer much so I went and bought some Lucas injector cleaner and I run a bottle through the tank every 8k miles or so and the noise hasn't come back since.

The only cure is something loud enough to mask the ticking noise as others have said. I opted for a louder exhaust. That cured it and it sounds awesome. That ticking noise is still there when I lift the hood but can't hear it over the exhaust like I used to.

The ticking blows and drove me nuts before I masked it. Apparently the reason is related to fuel efficiency.

My 09 has the tick as well, a friend of mine is a Toyota Tech, he says it's normal. Just turn up the radio, and it will go away.

i have an 06 and suffer from this ticking noise as well, mine is most noticable between 1500-2500rpm and then sounds like a champ. I tried the rubber gasket thing w/ no change...i just changed my oil pan gasket yesterday due to a leak(believe it or not i was actually successful) and while i was under checking for leaks after i was done i noticed the noise was extra loud. With the catalytic converter 6 inches from my face it seemed to be coming from there, i moved all around under the engine and the noise was most prominent right by the cats. Im not much of a mechanic and dont know shit about engines but was wondering if this could be along the lines of the exhaust manifold tsb???

I had the same buzzing noise and after 3 trips to the Toyota dealership it was discovered to be the plastic covering that is wrapped around the wiring from under the dash.
