Took the truck to the dealer today after discussing the problem with the radio over the phone. They talked to a "tech" and immediately said they would order a new radio. I guess from what I have read on here that it might take a month or so. Will let you know the outcome...

I would imagine the factory POS stereo probablly costs more than a halfway descent $200-250 aftermarket unit, since it's a "toyota" "factory" unit. They should just cut people checks for a couple hundred bucks and let them buy a radio that works.

Chad, we tried to get the dealership to allow us to pay the upgrade for a bluetooth enabled head unit. We were told that the truck would have to be "sent out" to do that and they could only authorize replacement of the head unit in house. Oh well....I agree....give me the $$ and let me decide...

Mine was doing the same. I went to the dealership and he told me they would just order a new one. It came in 5 days, they installed it and have not had a problem since. He said that there were a batch of bad Panasonics and Toyota was aware of the problem. I think your dealership is bullshitting you and would go back and demand a new one be installed. Although I am in Canada my truck was built in Califormia so it should not make a difference.

To much liability for Toyota to do that. Get some hack installer and the Truck burns down, then people are suing Toyota.

Mine is a DELPHI made in Mexico unit and is doing the same thing coming on or off with garbled display.

New replacement radio is working fine, no further problems. Took a little over an hour... and no dash scratches.
