My wife fell in love with a boat, wondering if my Taco is ok to pull it (praying actually, lol)
    Any suggestions??

Boat and trailer total weight 4150
Hitch won’t be a problem can change classes as needed; mostly worried about the truck itself
    :)

I have a 2009 4.0 v6 4x4 with tow package and pull a boat and trailer that is 3500 lbs. It’s absolutely no problem up hill, down hill, in windy conditions or anything else. I realize yours is about 600lbs more than mine but you should still be fine. However does that weight include a full tank of gas and all the equipment you may have in the boat? Also how accurate is that weight? Has it actually been weighed or is someone telling you that’s what it weighs?
Usually most boats are towed less than 100 miles each way so even if the weight is a little more you are still good.

Thanks so much for all the help!!
Probably need to make sure the brake package is good but everything else seems to line up.
Bink05TRD’s info was a massive help!!

Thanks for the deeper thought Sprig, weighed it at a truck stop scale; had all the junk in it and a half a tank of gas; so feeling pretty good. Don’t have the 4x4 package, so hoping all be ok when taking it out of the water. But sounds like we might be ok here.

Again, thank you all for the help :)

upgrading front brakes is a good plan. I pull a boat and didn't like how she felt stopping. I don't have trailer brakes BTW. I upgraded the front brakes to EBC dimpled and slotted rotors and yellow stuff pads. Best decision ever. night and day difference stopping.

If your truck has automatic trans, tow in 4th (not 5th OD). The tranny will continually "hunt", shifting back and forth from 4th to 5th and back. Keep it in 4th, keeps the tranny temp down and reduces the load on the drivetrain.

Adding trailer brakes if it doesn't have them. Stickier pads up front are no substitute, you need more wheels braking.

As for your wife falling in love with a boat, don't worry, she'll get over it, as will you. BTDT X 3.

I remember having a boat. I sold my last one years ago. I keep wanting another, but I remember actually having one...
