Is the Clutch Masters throw out bearing/ clutch fork combo any good?

The clutch fork is eliminated with that setup. I’ve been running it for a while with no issues but there seems to be several folks that have had QA issues with their products mainly around the seal leaking which in and of itself isn’t a big deal except you have to drop the trans to repair so it’s alot of labor.

OP when I was looking at this for mine the decision became a hard no based on trying to get some responses from their customer service. That is something I can not tolerate. Do some further searching here as there are plenty of folks that have had regrets with that specific product.

Thanks both of you and this is why I posted this ?

But if anyone could shine a light on this I would appreciate it.

I bought the LCE clutch+heavy flywheel+bearing combo. I just put on, in August, the sleeve and new t.o.b. but SINCE it's gonna be a heavier duty setup I thought the clutch masters setup might be prudent.

SO IF EITHER ONE OF YOU CAN, CAN YOU SHOW ME WHAT SEAL YOU MEAN LEAKS?

    Thanks,
    Brian

I daily mine. Planning to replace master under the pedal ($50) which I think is going bad.

not sure why people call trans removal hard. Maybe they are 5 years old.
You buy a couple of gaskets. Loosen the bell housing bolts with a long extension. And yank the bitch out. I can do it in less than a day with my eyes closed.

in fact that is exactly what I plan to do soon to go back in there to install a URD torque u heavy flywheel and stage 2 clutch kit.

regear? Hard. You have to know how to set lash and preload.
Welding? Hard. You need skills training an experience.
Placing a socket and extension on a couple of bellhousing bolts? Teenagers can do that.

Welcome to the world of modding a Tacoma. You’ll be under the truck for lots of things and time besides a clutch that you probably need by now anyway. Like suspension work.
If the goal was to never spend a minute under it, that could be achieved by just never modding it.
But that will also garuntee catastrophic failure soon of the stock TOB system given the engineers made it a horrible design

so it turns into, do you want to replace a piece of poop part with another shiny piece of poop part
Or upgrade it to something that is not a piece of poop
It’s like replacing a broken door with another broken door

in previous cars I happily put regular cheap throwout bearings that functioned just fine. But every other vehicle has a normal design of that system, as opposed to the 05-15 Tacoma 6spd that was blessed with a garbage design from the drawing board.
usually when a car company designs a shitty part and knows about it, they invent a redesign and release it for install to the public, sometimes even footing the bill to fix their negligence. Toyota did not care to do that. They didn’t care to do a lot of things. See: white paint, frame rust, etc

Not to threadjack here but I am doing this job right now. Completely not fun.
I mean Toymoco could not have chosen a worse place to put the MC. On most vehicles it is a relatively easy job but some genius at Toy instructed a newby engineer to find some impossible-to-access location for its placement. They then insulted all owners by specing a crummy plastic MC..... Rant over.

i was told the third gen MC is metal and same form, fit, function so you can get an upgrade while you’re in there.

    Thanks.

I pre-purchased all the OEM parts months back and if I had known what a pain this was going to be I would probably have done more research.

Now I got to decide whether to spend even more $$ on the 3rd Gen conversion parts....

I do kind of wonder if the OEM plastic one really does fail that often or if its just the idea that is the problem. Toy produced the plastic version for some 12+ years and I don't see rampant reports of failures.

I did not know either until I read somewhere here on the interwebs. My plastic one hasn't failed me yet, the slave cylinder/fork design hurt my ears enough to where I tried my luck with the clutch masters design. It was swapped out twice with OEM design and the bird chirp continued. My clutch pedal also squeaks when it gets warm I haven't been able to track where exactly is causing the noise but maybe upgrading to a metal master CYL would fix that too.

oh fuck. The YouTube video of the girl changing it made it sound like a pain. I may try mine today. Hoping it only takes one or two hours.

probably a matter of disconnecting the bolts, marking rod shaft length to copy on the new part, disconnecting line and draining fluid followed by pressure bleed.

but I hear it’s such a tight fit with the pedal in the way that makes more component unbolting possibly needed

fwiw metal Aisin master on RockAuto is only $50
$130+ at dealer for what’s likely the same part

    Ok some clarity:

    What is a MC?
    What is a metal cyl?
I think I saw a girl work on a Tacoma under dash on YouTube, but it's been awhile.
So please clarify, I'm not great with initials.

I followed the FSM to the letter and it has you removing the electrical junction box (fuse box) behind the lower dash trim piece, which is removed as well to gain access. Attached to that box is a plastic clip that holds the cable for the hood release (not sure why I wrote brake). My error.

It looks like what you have done is quicker and easier(?) Want to share any tips? Looks like you worked on your back.

placed left foot into door pocket for support
Don’t have the FSM wish I did

only thing I’m unsure of now is how the ball socket goes into the pedal cup because the new one appears slightly different shape and it’s hard to see. I’ll have to grab a mirror.
