In regard to the rear leaf spring TSB, my '2009' double cab 4x4 short bed was made in mid Setember of 2008. Took delivery mid Jan. "09'. Toyota dealer first informed me mine was ok. It had the new leaf springs since it was made in late '08'. WRONG!!!
Sagged & Bottom out with a 550 lb ATV. Informed the dealer and they replace with 4-leaf packs and new shocks all the way around and front alignment. A little stiffer but height only changed 1/2 to 3/4 inches.

Once and for all to read, I have a '09 dbl cab 4x4 w/tow pkg. with the G coded springs. Great ride!! Loades 37 8x8x16 concrete blocks and stopped since I was about 1/2" from the rubber stops. They weighed exactly 35 lbs each for a grand total of 1355LBS!! Had six of them on the tailgate at one time, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!!
Get over this TSB on 09's,, they don't need it!!

Yes it does. Last service I told them it bottomed out. They asked how much weight and I thought and said 1200 lbs (thinking I had 15x 80lb bags of soil in the back). They told me they were not surprised since I shouldn't have over 900 in back. Got home and realized I had 15x 40lb so only had 600 lbs. The next day I put a 700 lb mover in the back and bottoms out again. I griped when I took it in the dealer body shop last week. I get it back on 5/15 and will see if it has been fixed.

Funny how yours is fine and mine bottoms out with 500 pounds worth of camping and paintball gear in the back.

I think the biggest change for the 09 was shape to the bump stops - instead of a brick-shape, it is more like a triangle that has the top cut off. This is going to make the impact when first coming into contact with the bump stop much less pronounced. This may be why others haven't noticed a problem with theirs.

With regards to 1/2" of travel..that may not be enough to ensure safe operation. The concern would be on cornering.

Let alone, "the grand total of 1355LBS!" + his weight, a tank of gas, all the fluids in the engine and whatever else hee has in his truck.

    Maybe a little Over Weight???

I wasn't aware that there was a TSB for the defective '09 radios - but there may be (definitely should be). Several of us have had them replaced.

    More in THIS thread.

I've done a lot of reading on this issue. I signed the dotted line this past friday. I'm supposed to take delivery of it this Monday. On Thursday, I'm supposed to haul a trailer with 4 Motorcycles and 3 people on a 12 hour round trip to Western, PA and back. Should I have his TSB done before taking delivery? Will they even do it before I take delivery?

If it were mine I wouldn't want to put the new rig under load immediately. I'd wait until I was through the "break-in period" before working the truck.
And yeah, the TSB spring work would be high on my list if before I hooked up to that load.

I plan on driving it to as close the 1k mark as possible before putting towing it. Thank you for your response.

Called the dealer and asked about the tsb for my truck, the service manager said that he would contact the reg manager about it to get approval to do my 09 and that he didn't see any problem " I will push him to get it taken care of for you" hopefully i will get an appointment to get it done.
Thanks for al of your research and time invested .

I've noticed I have what looks like a Rev H spring. All the previous posts discuss the Rev G spring and a search of TW reveiled nothing on this part number. Just curious if the revision makes it any sturdier.

I can say this, it's 3 leafs, two long ones and a single short one. The 2008 TSB doesn't seem to mention the Rev letters.

    Any comments?

    Thanks,
    Joe

The Rev letters don't mean anything- I got told by some Toyota corporate operator that my springs were fine...and then about 3 months later the updated TSB came out. Compare entire part numbers in accordance with the TSB...but it's about 99% if you have 3 leaves- You have the "old" springs.
