I just got a 2010 Tacoma regular cab 4x4 2.7 manual. I am going to use it primarily for beach driving. Do I need to turn vsc off when driving on the beach or not. I noticed when I turn it off the auto lsd activates and I don’t want it on. The tacomas I’ve had before were older models and didn’t have all this traction control stuff.

You have to press and hold the button to turn off VSC and Traction Control, do note that VSC will turn back on automatically if you exceed 30 mph.

Is the vsc the same thing as traction control?

Vehicle Stability Control, yes, I would turn it off.
If I understand it correctly, it will limit your throttle response if you begin to spin a tire. It won't 'let it eat' if you need to give it hell.
One quick punch of the button allows you to give it all the throttle you want but activates the 'limited slip' by applying the rear brake to the wheel that spins. I don't find mine to be very aggressive.
If you push and hold for three seconds, it shuts everything off relative to traction and vehicle stability control.
