Actually, that tsb really condradicts itself too. It talks about using the 0w-20 and 5w-20 in the gr engines, but the "note" at the top says they recommend using what it says on the cap and in the manual....which in this case is 5w-30....so that tsb is pretty worthless.

Oh yeah, I hear ya about the contradictions... all it really does is continue to add to confusion. But what it DOES do is pretty much show the email OP got as even more worthless guidance since it clearly and specifically ignores and contradicts information published in the web site and the TSB.

I have read there were design changes (specifically: finish change on cam lobes) with the 2006 MY GR1's for 5w20... that's why 2005 isn't included in the TSB. I'm totally not sure why they allowed 0w20 in 2011, but the web site linked is perfectly clear it's OK.

I wonder if the TSB has been updated again?

I work as a Lexus tech and we have been seeing the same confusion here. I just two weeks ago bought a 11 tacoma V-6 and was actually glad to see the cap says 5W-30. I was expecting something thinner.I will be using 5-30 synthetic blend when I change oil at 2000 miles. I change oil at work on a lot of our cars using the 0-20 and that stuff is like brown water. There is absolutely no slippery feel to it on your hands. Scares the crap out of me but they aren't my cars. I am concerned that these manufacturers have gotten on the thin oil bandwagon trying to get another .3 MPG. We will see in another year or two whether that works out as far as how long the engines last. For me and my cars, including wifes 10 Mustang GT, we run 5-30 or 10-30 in the summer (both have long commutes) and hers gets maybe one change in Dec,Jan,Feb of whatever thin stuff Ford says.

Not sure if this has been said yet or not, but the 1GR's leave the Texas plant with Mobil 1 5W-30 (conventional) in them.

I would just stick with that or another brand you like and you'll be just fine.
