Urd as well as lc engineering make short shifter kits. The LCD one is prob the best, but I went with the urd because of price. ~$100 cheaper. Both kits are good and shorten the shift length about the same, I just like the design of the LC engineering one a bit better, but both kits are very high quality and no matter wich one you go with you should be happier with your throws and gear engagement.

Went today and testdrove BOTH for about 20 mins back to back and Im stumpeddddddddddd. Still not sure
5-speed = More fun, $1000 big ones cheaper, but I know will be a tad bit more on gas because the 5th gear was shorter
AUTO = Smoother feel, obviously easier to drive, cheaper on HWY gas
Anyone want to guess what would be better re-sale? I live in Halifax Nova Scotia if it helps, thanks!

Resale: Do not over think this...resale is only relative to what "someone" is looking for....go with what trips YOUR trigger at this time.Folks want to compare the cost of auto trans repair/replacement with a manuals clutch replacement....of course the manual is going to be less expensive, but, who said your going to keep the vehicle forever!!!.

    Just wait!
The great forum debates, I do a vast amount of 4 wheeling in very different terrain, my personal opinion is that an auto is safer and much more easy to maintain control when in technical situations (steep hills, rocks). With that said what everyone needs to understand is that it's all driver preference. One item of interest is that my sons 2011 auto has a noted difference in power after the first 1k miles, I,m sure that the engineers have programed the ECU to allow for break in. Funny part is I have a 2010 Taco and an 86 pickup w/ a R (135 kmiles) and my sons 2011 4X4 regular cab and the 86 will smoke em both!

I have an auto and it works fine. Yea a manual would be more fun/more powerful, but I do fine in the auto.

If you are really worried what the annoying guy in the ricer car is going to say, then maybe get the manual.

My 2011 access cab 4x4 2.7 is relatively new (purchased at the end of January). When I was shopping, I was under the impression, although I may not be correct, that in this configuration, the automatic was not offered.

There are different config for different parts of the country.

Personally I like the manual. In regular cab the auto comes with only two seats so that played in my choice (mine has a bench which is comfy and fine for me)

Thats what I thought at first. But THEN, me and my girlfriend decided to sell her car and split the payments. Half price is awesome but do I want her running the 5 speed into the ground? lol, thats my problem right now

This auto/manual debate is totally pointless. You get what you want, and what will suit you best. The 4x4 auto has a lower axle ratio (4:10) so there will be no apparent loss of torque or take-off power, assuming you drive moderately. Honestly, the interior played a bigger role in my decision to get an auto, I really wanted the buckets and console. I've had 2 of these trucks (both 4x4 reg cab 5 speed) and neither was particularly peppy out of the hole. I was concerned about how sluggish the auto might feel, but when I test drove one at a dealership, I was quite happy with it.

Unless you have specific need for one or the other (ex. you off-road a LOT or occasionally need the extra seating of a bench, so you may want a manual, or you want to install a remote start, or want buckets & console, so you may opt to get an auto).

My wife drives her 6 speed manual VW like she stole it with no ill effect (did same with her 2003 5 sp Vw, daughter now drives that one; she did wear out a 5 sp 95 civic with her driving but civis are somewhat dainty compared to VW or Tacoma.
Modern manual trans are pretty rugged. Explain proper clutching, don't let her hold on hill with clutch and she will be fine.

Why would you assume that one or the other is going to break?

Truth spoken here. Small motors are better suited to manual trannies in my book. That is why I went for the MT when getting the 2.7.

I have to Agree a 2.7 with a 5-speed is the only way to go full control of power when going through deep snow and mud. and fun to drive

I believe the auto's have a 3rd,2nd and low to choose from also....shouldn't be an issue in snow sand etc.
