Same issue here with my 2010. Happened at 10000 just the way you described. Dealer didn't want to do anything about it. Said they could replicate problem. Took it to a different dealer and they replaced it under warrenty. It'll keep slipping. Give it time.

It's gotten quite worse, to the point where I can't even put the hammer down in 4th or 5th gear on the highway. I'm going to take it in as soon as I can, and I will probably post a video soon if that helps.

I got mine back and they told me it isn't covered under warranty because it's a ware item so they ended up charging 1550. Now it's all normal no more problems but we will see in another 30000 miles. Good luck

the replacement parts are not the same parts that are failing. The LUK clutches are failing, being replaced with aisin. both are OEM factory installed parts, but the TSB reads to replace all LUK parts, and the part numbers that are being installed are all aisin.

and just for everyones info. the TSB number 0066-11 is the correct TSB number, the dealership looked it up and gave me my price to do it based on the parts off that TSB.

    UPDATE:

I've taken the truck into the dealer today, it did its typical slipping in 4th on the highway on the way from school to the dealer. On an unrelated note: It's incredibly windy today and I noticed this really annoying high pitched noise coming from some weatherstrip or something on top of my windshield, was really weird. When the SA test drove the truck, he couldn't get the clutch to slip (obviously) and said the hesitation to engage was nothing, but I insisted that when it's cold and under load in 4th, the RPMs do flare up. He did, however, notice the weird noise and that will be looked at. I've left the truck at the dealer overnight and am expecting a call maybe sometime tomorrow. Will post results tomorrow.

anxiously awaiting your solution. my 11' access cab did the same thing last night and this morning, so much that i had to limp it to work. not looking forward to the drive home.

slipping came out of nowhere. truck just hit 12, with 11k of that being all highway.

i have an appt with the dealer next week, since apparently they are booked solid.

Couldn't find any clutch-related TSBs when I searched that one.
Checked, 066-11 is the one that clearly states that even if the truck so much as budges the TSB is VOID.

Well, got a call from the dealer, they can't get the clutch to slip (of course...) but the wind noise issue will be looked at by a specialist tomorrow, I suggested they try the clutch tomorrow after it's sat, but if they can't get it to slip looks like I'm stuck with a bad clutch at least for the time being, if I complain about it a few more times while it's still under warranty then they might cover it when (or if) it all goes to sh**. At least that's what my former-Toyota-technician instructor says, really really hoping this gets sorted out...

Dealer called me this afternoon, they fixed the wind noise but couldn't find a problem with the clutch. Great. Now I'll have to wait till the truck barely moves and take it in but by then it'll be out of warranty and they'll tell me to f- off or fork over $900.

mine went from perfect to slipping like mad, nearly overnight. truck is sitting until my dealer appointment next week. if it works fine when i take it in for the appointment, then i will just buy the clutch and put it in myself.

i do not trust the truck anymore, and it needs a clutch job. regardless of whether i do it, or the dealer, it needs to be done.

I sure can weigh in on this. I own a 2010, 4x4 2.7 5 speed. That's my problem! I reported issues at 5k, 15k and 19K. Then someone got the bright idea to check the TSB's to see if there had been reported issues. YES there is. TSB 066 Twice I was in northern NM at our ranch. Elev. 8,000. Once I have a 500 pound single axle trailer with a 4 wheeler on it. My driveway is about 15 degree. I tried several times getting up my driveway. The next thing I know the damn clutch is smoking. I had to disconnect the trailer, take the 4-wheeler off and pull the trailer up the drriveway with the 4-wheeler and drive the truck up by itself. Then on I notice a little slipping from time to time. In a few months we went back on Thanksgiving last year. This time, same trailer, but snow sled, weighs 600 pounds, trailer 500 pounds. I'm in 5 inches of snow. 4 low and I'm stuck, instead of the tires spinning in the snow, which are std street tires. the damn clutch smokes again. I have to disconnect the trailer, drive the truck up the road, by the way the road is 5 degree incline at that point. I pulled the trailer up the road with the snow sled. When I returned back to Houston I went to the dealership and reported the clutch is slipping. Guess what, we can't find the problem, so there is No problem. Two weeks driving it while it continues to slip, I take it to another dealership and someone got smart, they found the TSB which would warranty everything. Great! I get a complete new assy.It will fix all my worlds problems! Well we went to Northern NM a couple weeks later, just this past Mar. I have my little trailer and a 300 pound load on it. Again sitting in 5 inches of snow, I put it into 4 low. I let out the clutch and we are thinking the tires are spinning. WRONG, the next thing we know there is a cloud of blue smoke all around us. The tires never turned over. Come on I said, brand new clutch smoked! I disconnected the trailer, and drive the truck the rest of the way without the trailer. We picked up the trailer on the way back out of the property later that day. The clutch slipped all the way back to Houston. I know it cooked from that damn smell! When you get that smell inside the truck it stinks. We get back and take it to the dealership and contact Toyota HQ. Now is where the BS starts. In the past few weeks I have written so many letters to Toyota HQ. They are giving me the run a round. They now don't want to replace anything under warranty. I have 23,000 miles on this truck and is 15 months old. I am fighting strong and standing my gound. I'm a 52 year old Engineer and have been driving a standard trans all my life and own two other vehicles with 6 speeds. This clutch design in this truck is a bad design and is too weak. They don't have enough pressure force for a 4x4. (unless we all have defective transfer cases for the 4x4) Now running around in 2 wheel drive this clutch would probably last 100k miles. I have a scheduled tear down at Toyota at my expense, yes they are making me pay so I can prove to them it was due to defective materials. I will update this, as I have another thread on here somewhere.
TOYOTA 4 cylinder clutch is JUNK! and if anyone has a 4 cylinder 5 speed 4x4, best be checking your clutch in 4 wheel low, cause it ant going to make it.
Garner, and I ant taking no more shit from TOYOTA!!

One dealer pulled the same nonsense with me, they wanted me to pay for a teardown and if the clutch was found to be burned, I would have to pay for the entire repair. Of course the clutch is going to be burned because it is slipping due to a weak pressure plate. The problem is there are two clutches, Luk, made in Mexico, and Aisin made in Japan. The Luk pressure plates are the ones failing. Have them drive the truck in 4th or 5th up a hill under hard acceleration and the problem should show itself. I resolved my problem by having the clutch replaced under warranty by a better dealer.

If anyone has gone through this dealing with Toyota and dealerships I know what you have been dealing with.
I am reaching out for support and help from anyone that can.
I have reported my problem to Toyota at 5K, 15K, 19K, 20K, 23K and now the truck is dead at the dealership. Yes, only 23,000 miles and 15 months. It would have been dead long time before this, as I didn't use 4 wheel low until I got 15K on it, thats the first time the clutch smoked.
I think everyone would agree here,
My truck is on 4 inches of snow, all 4 tires. I am in 4 low for traction. I have regular street tires. I have a trailer, single axle, weighing 500 pounds. 300 pound on the trailer. The incline is 5 degrees and I'm at 8,000ft.
I rev up say to 2500 rpm's. I let out the clutch.
    1st it should stall
2nd the truck should move foward or backwards
    3rd the tires should spin
    remember I'm on wet snow,
shit no, I have a cloud of smoke all around me before I knew what was happening.
I have to disconnect the trailer just to drive the truck on up the road.
    Really?

If anyone has a truck with this setup and hasn't tried using their 4 low in 4x4 I recommend you do soon.

If anyone has a pdf of the service records where they have experienced this problem, problem with the dealership or Toyota HQ, I would really like to have a copy for support.
    My email, fgec@chevron.com
It is nonsense to have an all new clutch to fail in 3,000 miles.
And yes I know how to drive a stick, I still own my 1975 transam 4 speed I bought new and drive and own several Corvettes Z06, 6 speeds.
If there is enough complaints for this small production truck then maybe we will be heard.
Thanks for reading and your help

I have a 2010 reg. cab, 5 speed, 4 cyl. 4X4. I bought it used with 4,000 miles on it. By 5,000 the clutch was slipping. After a few trips to the dealer it was replaced free. Toyota has a bulletin on it! It appears that the clutch plates made in Mexico are inferior to those made in Japan. Keep after the dealer until you get it fixed at no charge.
    Good luck,
    Silvert
