I am taking my Tacoma in today for a frame inspection. I am hoping they will spray some Corrosion Resistant Compound on there for free. Has anyone else looked into this recall?

If they don't think it really needs CRC under there, is there anything I can do to increase the odds of them just spraying some on anyway? Not sure if they're going to prefer to just not do it if they don't have to.

There are several threads on this subject. Got my letter and called dealer, made appointment, and they inspected and said see you in 6 mo. Thats what happened with me.

Taking mine this Saturday. Unusually rusty for being a Texas truck all its life. I bought it with a badass frame and suddenly rusted on me over the last 2 years. Rust is expanding onto my drive shaft and differential

I took mine to the dealer in November. They checked it, and they told me that it was fine. Then I received a paper with in the last couple weeks saying to bring it in for an inspection and a corrosion coating on. I’ll do it in a couple more months so they can check my frame again. Hopefully all the salt that they throw on the road will get me a new frame.

Is the crc application the rubberized one ? Is it worth it ?

Ok! I took it in and they said it had no rust holes and that it looked fine. They ordered a Corrosion Resistant Compound kit and are going to call me when it arrives. They said the truck might need to be there all day, so they're going to give me a loaner car.

The service manager told me that spraying the CRC on right away was what they were going to do regardless of the condition of my frame (as long it didn't need to actually be replaced). Is this wrong on their part? Should I wait to use this free CRC? How long does it last?

IMG_7140.jpg Here's something interesting to check out. I saw this Tacoma Sport on a Toyota dealer lot in upstate NY this weekend. Since I've been keeping an eye on the frame of my 2015 I wanted to go take a look when I saw this gen 2 with a for sale sticker in the corner of the lot. This was a 2013 with 65ishK on it. This sure looks like a lot of rust to me but I am far from a expert on the subject. I don't think I'd be buying this truck having taken a look underneath. I wonder what everyone else thinks, is this acceptable "surface rust" or something more problematic. I didn't want to bother asking the sales team about the truck and the rust situation, I figured posting it here would provide some good feedback. I'm not in the market for another Tacoma, I'm just trying to keep an eye on frames and rust now cause I want mine to last me a long long time! I got home from seeing this truck and did my 2nd basting of Fluid Film since the fall ;-)

CRC only works well if the metal is clean and rust free from the get go. Applying it over rust will only make it rust faster since it seals in moisture. I would go over your frame really well and sand away any rust and paint over it before you take it to the dealer for the application. Also, after a year or two the CRC will start to get dry and flaky, you can rejuvenate it by spraying Fluid film on top. Doing so will keep the CRC in the wet, greasy state that it works best in.

My 04 got it in 2010. The frame is mostly shiny black paint under the CRC from where Ive scraped it off. There are a few spots (up by the engine mounts and shock towers mainly) where it was not applied well, or applied over existing rust. Ive had to scrape away the CRC, sand down to bare metal, prime, paint, then fluid film on top of these spots. If I were you, I would drop the spare, and remove the rubber fender/splash guards before you take it in. Mine never got sprayed behind those liners, and behind them was the worst rust on my truck.

Heres a 2017 Taco I saw at Carmax the other day while my sister was car shopping. Dunno where it came from, but it sure wasnt an NC truck. This is a prime example of why Toyota extended the frame coverage to 2017.

Could still be a NC truck. Ever heard about driving on the beach? Salt water will do that.

Lived here all my life. Newer vehicles just dont rust like that from a few beach trips. I wouldnt put it past it, but it would surprise me if thats what the cause is.

Just had my inspection today and I won the CRC kit installation package. They have ordered the kit and said installation will take 2-3 days. At least they're providing a loaner during that time.
