Are they weaker than the older models? I've had other Tacoma's and I've never seen any vehicle I've had have such a weak windshield, by that I mean anything that hits it cracks or chips it and there look to be thousands of tiny little dings ( you can only really see in direct sunlight) that don't interfere with seeing out of it but that are clearly there from just about anything that hits it.

In about an hour I'm getting my 6th chip/crack repaired in just 2 years.

Mine is the same way. Mine is pitted pretty bad and I only have 47k miles. I was thinking that newer windshields on all vehicles are made differrently now, perhaps for safety reasons.

Just 25k here and the tiny pits are unreal, it's like someone poked it with
a needle point a million times. And not once has anything hit it that didn't chip it.

What year is yours? Maybe the manufacturer for yours is using another glass supplier??

With my previous 11' DBLB and my 13' Access Cab now. I had cracks within 3 months of owning both of them. I am going to have to replace the Access Cab windshield but I am going to wait until it becomes an issues.

It's all about saving weight and money and better gas mileage. All manufacturers are making their windshields thinner to save weight, but they are more brittle (prone to chipping) to retain the same strength as a thicker one. This all means that newer windshields will chip and crack much more easily than older windshields. Just ask someone at an automotive glass shop. My insurance guy verified this when I had a discussion with him about how easily my new windshield was chipping.

I feel the same way. 7 month old truck and I've got two real nice stars and countless chips. One of the stars was a direct smack from a good size pebble so IMO any windshield would have cracked but the others I feel should not have happened.

I broke my 2012 windshield when i was replacing a wiper blade. I dropped the wiper arm directly on the glass and it broke. I have never seen anything like this before.

Most all modern auto glass is thinner than in the past. Why? Weight savings. Saving weight = better MPG. The strongest windshield I have seen in my life, was on a 66 Plymouth Belvedier. Im pretty sure the Space Shuttle could fly into it, and it wouldnt crack. What makes me think this? Because I owned the car, and hated it. SO....I throw a Red Brick at it one day, it hit the windshield, and the brick broke. My buddy, who was watching, and belived himself to be a martial arts expert, told me that he could break it. SO......He did some silly assed spin, screamed, and punched it. He broke his hand, and was in a cast for 6 weeks. Now......the Windshileds I have had on all my vehicles since 1997, seem to get pitted if you hit a dust cloud at 70 mph.

2009 DCLB SR5, I've got millions of tiny little specs that you only see when driving into the sun. Wipers not very smooth running across the surface and living in the PNW with alot of rain it is very annoying! Getting tired of replacing them all the time! HA!

The day I brought my '11 home I noticed what looked like a golf ball size pit in the bottom drivers side of the window and had it replaced. I dont know if something hit it or what. I did have a problem with a bad seal on my 07 AC and my dad had the same issue with his 05 DCLB.

The first 05 I had I bought new. I sold it in 2010 at 102k and I put 3 windshields in it. So 4 total over 5 years. Most windshield's I have ever put in anything I've owned in 25 years. Oddly enough the next one I bought had the original at 112k when I bought it and it was pitted, but fine. My current truck has a relatively new windshield in it.

I think it depends on what and how it hits your windshield.

As far as I know my windshield is over 3 years old and has no visible problems.

Different states have different driving conditions. Like I know out west where it snows they usually lay gravel rather than salt on the road and thus it leads to more windshield damage. In the mid west I have not noticed much of an issue. I've only replaced on windshield on my 250. I've had some wicked rocks come at me too.

I can handle windshield damage, it's chips in my hood that will cause me to need a good man cry.
