For those curious, the 2012 climate control is plug and play in previous years, with the exception of one plug. See info below. I found a panel out of a wrecked Tacoma and installed it along with my entune project.

I'm confused here...what was the purpose of the swap? To change the color of the illumination or the face?

Both. The silver face with amber lighting stuck out with the 2012 head unit and surround. The 2012 control has LED illumination vs the 2011 and below has amber colored plastic illuminated by bulbs. It's possible to change the illumination color with LEDs while the older unit you can't.

So...changing the stereo and surround and steering wheel will effectively give you a new 2012-13 interior.

I'm guessing because it looks a lot better and accepts entune. If I had a pre-2012 i would probably do the same thing with the exception of not adding entune.

What did all this cost you? I have been wanting to do this to my 2011 for a while now.

looks good. If the cost isn't too bad, I'm going to do this on my 2011. I don't care too much for the aftermarket look of head units.

How many LEDs were there in the 2012 climate control? I just bought a 2012 climate control for my 2011 and I need to order the LEDs. Are they the same LEDs as the ones in the instrument cluster? I still wish there was a way to change the temperature display from amber to white in the 2011's, that's the only thing I have left!

Anybody know what type and how many LEDs the 2012 climate control has?

leds are the plcc-2 just like the clusters about 5 of them for the background

and 1 of the 0602 leds for each button

but if you change the background, the blue and red of the temperature dial wont look good fyi

Has anyone actually changed the steering wheel? If so, what's involved?

I did this and for some reason the A/C led stays lit and can't be shut off no matter what. I checked all the connections and they are good. Is there any other changes that need to be done make it work?

    too many to list
Just finished mine as well and its the same for me. Not really a big deal though because it shuts off when the fan is turned off. IF anyone has a fix though I would be interested.

I just did this swap with my 2006. Ordered the parts from Eastern Beaver, took about a week for them to arrive.

The fix for the A/C Light Staying on is fairly simple. My 2006 needed the wire from Pin 1 on the A16 connector to go to Pin 13 on the A33 connector. I think later model trucks switched Pin 13 to Pin 16.

Also, on 2008 and earlier trucks, the voltage to change the Temperature from Cold to Hot is reversed from 2009 and later trucks. I have a solution, but it's not for the timid, see post 24 on THIS THREAD

Does anyone who did this mod still have the write up pdf file that is linked in the first post? The file is no longer on dropbox and I really want to do this one. I am putting it in an 07, so my understanding is that I need a harness and also need to do the mod on the control board. Is there anything else I need to look out for?

Thanks man! I had a spare harness from a junked 2012, so I went ahead and cut off my factory harness and soldered the new one in! I like how you show the wire colors in the write up. If cutting and soldering, it's a simple color-to-color wire up.

Now to do the reversed hot/cold fix!
