so tonight my truck shut off on me. Did some routine checks( battery, fuel pump noise, all oil, water levels etc) gas gauge at 1/4 tank. Did the old knocking and shacking of truck. Apparently there’s no fuel in tank. Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like your fuel gauge went kaput?

So i did the old knock on the tank and sure enough, bone dry gents. Anyone have any input on a fuel pump that won’t break the bank ? Rockauto?

Did the pump go out or just the mechanism that measures the amount of fuel in the tank? I ask because you said the gauge read 1/4 tank when it was actually empty. I know running the tank empty isn't good for the pump, but I would make sure it needed it before I replaced it.

So i was able to hear the bump buzz or cycle what not, so it is working, I’m guessing it’s the floater inside that is being lazy and doesn’t want to work 100%. Should i change the entire bump or should i just change the floater ?

After a quick check on rock auto, it looks like it's only sold as a complete unit so you may have to do the pump along with the floater, sending unit, etc. There's a unit for $176 on there so it doesn't sound too bad. I've never personally done any of this so someone with some more knowledge may chime in with some better info.
