My 2012 CC OR TRD was born in Mexico, has a tow package, three leaves, and a problem... When I went to tow a light tent trailer, the back end sagged, bottomed out, and began to squeak while unloaded. I did what reasonable person would do with a $35K truck under full warranty, I complained. My complaints fell on deaf ears. My service adviser at Kendall Toyota of Eugene, OR must be new to Toyota, because he looked me in the eye and said, "No, the Tacoma's went from a two leaf rear to a three leaf rear. Yours has all of the updated parts." He went on to say that there may be, "some atmospheric effect on leaf springs that cause them to squeak under the right conditions." He added that I, "Should buy aftermarket airbags for the rear," and that Toyota, "Also recommended that I buy aftermarket airbags for the rear."

Child, PLEASE. Leaf springs have been around since Roman chariot times. Everyone knows they squeak, and that this is fixable, so fix it! Toyota Customer Service was to no avail.

According to Toyota's Customer Service, my 2012 is fully updated, and has all of the corrected parts you '05-11' guys begged for (what with three whole springs, Teflon contact points, etc...) AND YET... My $35K MASTERPIECE Sounds like I'm dragging a chain down the road w/28K mi.

    Thank you, Toyota.

I too have a 2012 that has the same squeeky leaf problem. Did you ever get this resolved?

I've overloaded my '12 OR and it sagged but didn't ride on the bump stops, no squeaks after. Definite improvement over my '09 until I had the TSB done.

That said, I am considering adding some airbags just to help out in those times when I am carrying a heavy load.

I may go the OME/Dakar route, but leaning toward just keeping things stock since I don't offroad much. Very undecided. Having a couple grand in my pocket for OME and tires would probably do a lot to sway me.

spray some teflon spray or other better than wd40 lube on it to kill the squeek,

toyota could not care any less

All leafs squeak after a while or if they are dirty

Toyota makes a larger set of isolator pads for the OEM springs , for the Dakars you can try the EPDM strips like I started a thread about

I would suggest the OP look at the Wheelers HD pack

Ive never once heard my Dakar's make noise. Not even after having supercharged mud slung on/around them. I didnt wash them off until 2 weeks after but still hadn't heard a peep out of them....

there are bushings where the leaves rub and squeek? :p

teflon spray should not hurt them.

Good point, i was thinking of where almost all of them squeek at the rubbing point..

I have the junk factory pack so the leaves dont actually even touch at the end minus the one main

I have considered using a small inserted piece of "unbreakable" nylon. Basically ABS plastic but stronger..

As a newbie... I first must say again to all "thanks" for all the valuable info.. If not for this site I prob would have hurt someone at the dealership by now.... My 2013 has the weak spring issue... Dealer finally did an extended bump stop insert, which at least they did something... I've quit fretting, recommend you do the same.. I work in rough conditions, thought I was buying a factory tough truck.... But I'll buy me a lift and do the mods from this site ... It'll b ok :)
