Got my first rock chip yesterday with less than 100 miles and only 2 days old. The city was out mowing rocks (weeds) on the shoulder of the road and I moved as far over as I could as I passed him. Just as I drove by a heard a loud crack as he flipper a rock at my truck. It put a big chip on back drivers side door. I was pissed to say the least.

700 miles and none that I know of yet, I am dreading the day it happens. I think that is what I'm going to miss the most about my 99 Tacoma, not ruining your day or even week over a scratch or dent.

Rock chip on the windshield at around 500 miles. I have this happen on every new car I get within the first couple months of owning it. I was fucking pissed.

They're really small surface chips, like the size of crumbs. Anyway to fill them with hiring someone?

Three weeks after I got mine last fall, my wife went into the garage to get a leaf rake off the wall. She caught a metal bow rake and knocked it off the hook, it came down on the roof of my '12, close to the top of the door. Fortunately, she did manage to catch it as it hit, so no dent, just took off some paint. I repaired it with the Totoya touch up paint and the Lanka system. Did a pretty good job, I can only notice it from some angles, and only I know it's there.

My Tacoma got it's first scratch about two weeks ago at ~2k miles. I had leaned my bike on the lowered tailgate while I was wrestling with the fork mount, and I must have shaken the truck enough for the front wheel of my bike to turn and slide away, making the rest of the bike fall inward toward my rear bumper. I didnt notice any damage until later when I raised the tailgate and saw a scratch about 2-3" long. I cursed myself for a minute, then realized it didn't bother me too much. The scratch is pretty light, in the clear coat only. If I ever get some wax on there it'll probably disappear. Also I'm glad I made the first scratch - if it had been a door ding or if my GF had done it I would have been pissed! Plus it's a truck, not a garage queen... it deserves to have a few well-earned blemishes.

3500 miles and 3 months with no chips or scrstches yet. Its two-week washing is tomorrow. We will see. I have never had a vehicle this long without something happening. But it could be that I don't wear my eye glasses when I wash my Tacoma.

I got my first scratch around 300 miles after hauling some gravel for a friend.

When I was at the dealership for some other reason a few weeks after, the salesperson noticed it and had the body shop fix it for free.

I got two just above the driver's side flare in the first week. Over four years of owning my last truck I didn't even get one chip. :(

Got a few very small chips on the front of the hood. I tried my best not to have a heart attack. I am more concerned about rusty looking tiny spots that seem to be under the clear...

I'm usually VERY careful around my cars. (Felt overalls only when working in the engine bay). At about 2000 kms last week, for some reason I shut the door with the keys in my hand, and scratched the door. A second of horror, then a realization of, "Hey, first scratch out of the way. Less stress for me!"

But it did feel lke th piaint was kind of soft.

owned the truck for almost 5 months and it has ~8500 miles, nearly all highway miles. First rock chip was around 50-60 mi and have been adding more since then. Whats the fun in worrying about little stuff like that? I drive my truck the way its supposed to be driven, ruins all the fun if I worry. Not like I can swerve and miss every single rock thats been thrown up at me from other vehicles. Also adds a little character to my front end as well.
