I considered PAC until Axxess came out with the auto programming version. Seemed like a no brainer. NoT! Oh well. The question is how frequent will I use it. My address book is downloaded to the HU so its not that big of a deal. Just have to use my fingers. Lol

You guys with the metra kits, how do you like the fit? I think I'm getting used to it, or the fact that is much better than the 05-011, maybe "it's just fine".

I had the same issues with my Pioneer deh-P9400BH. Had to shave off about 4-5mm to compensate for the width of my unit....the head unit that is. LOL :D But I do agree, the Metra finish is a good match.:)

So you're steering wheel adapter from taco tunes works EVERYTHING on your 2012 steering wheel? This gives me hope.

What pioneer HU do you have and what steering wheel interface? I'm researching my stereo upgrade and keep hitting 2012 component hurdles. Seems like you have it figured out and everything works! Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

I picked up a pioneer avh8400bh at a banging price. And searched forever for a dash kit only to find that it had not been developed yet. Then metra developed one but they were sort of hard to find due to quanities. Found someone on TW wanting to sell theirs. Purchased it. I wanted to utilize my factory steering wheel controls so I did some research. PAC makes a nice kit but you have to program each function. Then I stumbled on axxess who has a self programming unit but there were wires that you needed to splice into factory harnesss. Lost interest for a bit cause that idea was a bit scary. Then I seen where ********* takes the axxess kit and simplifies it by application. They discard the wires you don't need and add a coupler so there's no splicing. So I ordered it. Then I found a parking break bypass on Amazon sold by a company called Microbypass. Its devoloped specifically for the HU you have. So I ordered it. Installed everything at once. There is ony one issue I have with the axxess module for the steering wheel controls. The hands free phone buttons on the right side of the steering wheel do not function properly. They change the preset radio stations instead of answering the phone. It really isn't a big deal to me cause the pioneer HU has a really nice on screen contacts mode that activates automatically when a call come in. (Note that I have a motorola droid 3) set up was a sinch. I don't know if you've had much experience with installing aftermarket radios but there is adiquite instuctions on how to install all the components I previously mentioned farely easy. Prep everything outside the vehicle and just plug the couplers in afterwards, with the exception of the remote wire coming from my amplifier. I will locate some links and get back with ya. Good luck. Its kinda fun and satisfying once you finish a project like this yourself.

I have the Pioneer avh8400 and I purchased the ********* steering wheel interface. All the buttons on the steering wheel work with the exception of the voice command button which obviously won't work as the headunit doesnt support voice commands. Other than that button the receiver will answer and hang up just as the factory head unit did.

I just received my dash kit and went to install it on a AVH8400 and the dash kit doesnt fit around the headunit.... guess its time to sand, and also send an email to metra.

Nope everything works. Adapter is SWI-PAC version 6.8 (something like that) you must make sure you get the latest version as it allows for full steering wheel controls including voice controls. This is imperative. You must also program the controls yourself, but it is pretty easy to do.

    Ah
I opted for a single DIN, so I guess it does not apply to me.
Thanks for clarifying this for me

Aaaaand, we're back to square one, with no kits that properly fit the '12 models yet. I'd be shocked, if it weren't for the fact that we're now days away from it being a whole YEAR past when Scosche first said our kits would be ready (see my original post, or the thread here).

This was the deciding factor for me of not going to the 2012 kit. As the 2011 kit allowed me to use the factory metal brackets. Why can't someone just build a new kit that's not a POS?

Some Stereo MFGs have increased the size of the Double Din units larger than standard ( larger than 7" wide). That may be the issue.

If your system face is larger than Din = 7" X 2" or Double Din = 7" X 4" then it isn't Metra's fault blame the manufacturer of the head unit.

Single DIN is 7" wide x 2" high.

Double DIN is 7" wide X 4" high.

you gotta admit though, the 2012 kit fit and finish does conform to the dash curves alot better than the 2011. yeah the brackets do suck, and the opening is a little tight for some HU. but at the end of the day, the '12 kit is the better choice. i thank you again for the '12 kit. im satisfied. maybe in a couple "years" lol, i will look up a 2012 toyota tacoma dash kit and hopefully have better options to choose from. but by then i may not even care. :censored:
