I have to agree with you 100% on this observation. Other vehicles, with what I consider are weak attempts at redesigns, may have their engines and chassis remain the same but get full interior and exterior modifications. This is just some light refreshing of the front end and some light interior modifications.

Pretty lame on Toyota - looks like they are just resting on their laurels having the small-mid size market wrapped up. Lucky for Toyota there is no real competition in this segment of the truck market.

I like the '12...and the '05-'11...oh yeah, and the '95-'04. It's good to see a little upgrade. with a lot of people hating the '12, it may be due to the anticipation of unreasonable expectations. It's a great truck and has been for a long time. If too much is changed at once, it may reflect a completely different truck that may not be nearly as good as the Taco history. The subtle change is nice, even though I would have liked to see a powertrain upgrade, I like the '12. The look is good and interior is awesome.

I want to see a 2012 with a lift, mud tires, plate bumper and snorkel. Until then, I think the 2011's stock look good.

Exterior is just to make it look like a distant cousin to the new 4Runner without a complete rebuild. Looks worse.
Interior I think LOOKS better, but is either equally functional in the case of the dash, or LESS functional in the case of the steering wheel, specifically the controls.

Clearly they would not roll out this major facelift if they didn't intend to get a few years out of it. They should have done nothing and did a total rebuild in 2013. Conclusion - We won't see a truly new Taco until maybe 2015+.

As much as I dislike the new 2012 I was no more hapy with the new Jeep i test drove today. It drove much worse than my 2009 Taco and was hard to get used to.....it wanted to wander all over the road at highway speeds. The re-design interior is better but still cheap feeling and oddly enough there are no 6 speeds in my area at all.....that is a deal breaker for me.

I think I will most likely keep my 2009 access cab and add a few parts (lift and tires) and wait for something truly worthy from Toyota. Crazy as it may sound the Toyota salesman who showed me the new 2012 was very up front about most customers opinion of the 2012. He admitted that very many have came to look and many have walked away without buying the 2012.

I had a choice between a 2011 and a 2012. Was about to buy the 2011 but then they had a 2012 so I wanted to see it in person. Luckily both of them were grey and the same package (trd offroad). I ended up going with the 2012 because it looked a lot more aggressive and a lot more meaner. I may be one of the few who got attracted to the new facelift because it usually takes longer for redesigns to grow on me.

There's definitely more details and the "nose" is a little more pronounced whereas the previous years look more on the same level. Either way, both looks great so you can't go wrong. I just can't wait till I pick up the truck. It's getting built in Texas right now. The one i looked at was already sold.

After seven years of the same look it needed a facelift.A dealer sales manager told me that when he was at a meeting they were told not to expect any major changes anytime soon because the Tacoma has been so sucessful they do not want to ruin a good thing since they are almost the only ones building a mid size truck now.Expect just a few little changes each year.

this has probably been said a couple times in the 9 pages of this thread, but i am not reading through all of it. I think once people start removing the bumper and throwing on some AM parts, these trucks will look AMAZING...but i won't be trading my '10 in for one. and i agree that stock, the 05-11 looks better...

ahh I see this topic has already been discussed and most people agree with that the 2012 tacoma front is ugly as a turd.

IMO I dig the 12's way more than previous years. I think they all look good, but the 12 is a big improvement.
