For starters, you stay after the dealer until its right. 2nd, most people will not be able to tell if its been repainted or even have the eye to know.

I agree, paint jobs are usually red flags

i think that most paint jobs have some kind of flaw in them even from the dealer, and if anybody cares to look, they will see it

I'm having issues with my paint as well on the driver side lower door panel. I took it in today and have an appointment at 0900 at a third party paint shop to see what the problem is.
I've waxed the truck twice since I've bought it and for some reason there is a stain that always appears and will not come out unless its buffed. The paint feels rough like there is no clear coat there.

document the work and there are zero questions.

and...if you trade with a dealer instead of selling private...zero issues.

If I had paint issues with my new truck...it would be resolved asap.

My 07 has a spot on the hood, but I don't know if it is related. It had 32k on it when I bought it, and the spot was already there. Other than that my white still looks good. There is no good reason why the paint should be doing this, with or without clear. Even white paint produced 35 years ago with no clear held up great in extreme sun. I painted a Bronco pure white back around 1978 with Sherwin Williams and that paint held up great. The problem here is most likely cheap paint.

Allowing Toyota to do a spot touch up is a really bad idea. Most likely the paint they use will not be the stuff used at the factory, so the two will age differently. The truck will end up blotchy over time. A problem like this requires a complete paint job. I wouldn't accept anything less.

There is a ton of difference in the paint allowed in 1978 and now. All car paints are water based ( thanks EPA ). There is no comparison between solvent based and water based paints.

Most of all non metallic paints are single stage. I worked in a body shop and have seen oxidation on many different brands of cars. It really not that big of a deal. Buff it, and use a good sealer. Keep it polished.

I used to have a white taco. Would apply sealer about once a month. There are many good brands on "wipe on and walk away", synthetic sealants. They work very well and are easy to apply.

For the dealer to tell u that u need to wax a car that already has oxidation is just effn stupid. The wax will not remove it, only cover it up for a very SHORT time. U need to use some very slight abrasive to remove it before you wax or seal.

This is VERY common with Toyota and honda whites. It's not something to sell the car over.

Now of you can wipe your hand over the spot, and you end up with white dust on your hand, you have a big issue. I would take it back then in a heartbeat.

    Just my 2cents.
