2012 TPMS light Disabled

sub'd - I need to do this. 11 years and I think my TPMS batteries are dead or one of the sensors is bad. Light is one all the time now and I can't stand it. Don't really care to spend several hundred for new sensors. I did just fine without TPMS for 20 years before they existed.

 

My light has been on for almost 10 years

 

Give it a couple months and you don't even see it! See post above ^^^^^.

After 8 weeks, finally did this. There was no visibility on that plug behind the climate controls but I could feel it. Once disconnected from the TPMS module, it was easier to work with. Only had to remove the climate controls. Radio was not touched but I did end up popping a couple switches below the climate controls for finger access to help get the plug reinserted. 25 miles so far and no light or adverse effects.

 

Been almost a week and 300 miles later, still good.

 

It's been over a year for me and I've had no issues. This mod is great.

 

Agree this mod is great, and worked perfectly on my 2013. As mentioned a few posts above, I only needed to pull the HVAC panel, and pop out the switch blanks below it. Would have been nice to have extra slack in the wire harness to cut the blue wire and Scotch Lock it onto the red/white wire, but it was doable. Biggest struggle was plugging the connector back into the bottom of the TPMS box. I finally was able to position it using my fingers through the HVAC panel hole and push it up using a long, skinny screwdriver through one of the switch blank holes.

Just did this on my 2011, only drove for 5 minutes so far but the light is off. I just removed the climate adjuster panel, and one of the switch covers below to get a second hand in there when reinstalling the tpms connector. Tight area to work but straight forward job. Was a little tricky getting the wires seated in the connector and staying seated while crimping them in such a tight space.

Long story of why I decided to do this:

I got new tires put on my truck yesterday and the tech showed me one of the sensors that they took out during the swap and the housing was pretty damaged. They claim it was like that when they removed the old tire, and would reinstall it but said the light might come on. I had no light or issues prior to the tire install. Sure enough the light illuminated on the drive home. So here I am.

 

I replaced tires and wheels recently on my 08 that had the original sensors. Since they were 12 years old and way past the 'sell by ' date I ordered new ones. Got OEM Toyota/Lexus sensors on eBay for $60 for a set of 4. My shop had the code reader and 5 minutes after putting them all together they worked like a charm.

 

7 weeks and 3000 miles later - still good.

 

Works on 2015 TRD Off Road. Light is gone forever thank you so much.

 

I've got the problem now after 6 years - pretty sure a sensor battery is dead or dying. Sometimes the light goes out for a day or two then goes back to the blink..... At first I was grabbing the gauge and checking pressures (DUH) but finally got it through my thick skull the system is bad not the tires.

Will do this now to get it over with once and for all! Thanks for the thread guys.................​

 

It worked! TPMS light off, but now the SRS airbag light is on. I guess I'm off to the dealership for a diagnosis.

 

Finally got a chance to do this on my 09, tired of replacing the sensors, no more annoying TPMS light. Thank you OP.

 

Anyone done this in a way that is reversible? Thinking of using some connectors that will allow me to put it back to the original wiring once I get new tires and replace the dead tire sensor. If so, what connectors did you use?

 

It’s easy to reverse, just undo what you did and connect the wire together with a twist cap or even sodder. I still love this mod!

 

This worked on my 2013 base Tacoma, wasn't the easiest thing to do in such a cramped space. Glad the light is off tho
