I wonder if regular F-150 forum members at the ford truck forum were this mad about the Raptor...

yes, they threw in flared fenders....and apparently a "relief" point on the frame to let it brake when too much force is put on it...like a high speed bump :D

i can't wait to hear all the moronic stories of guys taking the Baka edition Tacoma out to the dessert, running it at 80mph on the shitty track roads and wondering why the truck came back broken.

I've had a 2012 Baja parked in my garage for about two weeks now and I LOVE it...

I had a 2006 4x4 TRD Off-Road Double Cab for almost 4 years and traded it in on a 2010 Ford SVT Raptor back in October of 2009. I have since sold the Raptor and ordered my Baja back in March.

Based on my own experience with these trucks, I call tell you this:

The Raptor was incredible off-road but WAY too big the type of driving/wheeling I do most often. It was a blast to cruise down a desert washboard road at 60 to 80 mph with complete confidence in it's handling ability. It was/is in a class by itself.

My new Baja is certainly no Raptor fighter, not even close. But it is much better then my 2006 TRD Off-Road. Toyota has REALLY done their homework with this truck. It's much more than a little lift, some shocks, tires/wheels, and stickers. The suspension just plain WORKS with no vibration or shimmy "demons" that can plague aftermarket set-ups. For my type of driving (daily driver with weekends spent on rough desert dirt/sand/rock roads, the Baja is great. I wouldn't go back to either my old Raptor or TRD...

I'm not saying that you can't build a "better" rig yourself at home for alot less money. What I am saying is this truck is much more than it's spec sheet would suggest. And if you want something like this direct from the factory with a full warranty, you might just want to take a serious look.

For the record, my truck stickered at $37,200 (options were tow package, daytime running lights and floor mats) and I received a $500 factory rebate (good on any 2012 Tacoma in stock) and negotiated another $1000 off. So I saved $1500 off of the sticker price and got the truck for $35,800 plus tax/tags. No it wasn't cheap, but I think the "upgrades" over the TRD Off-Road was worth it...

Good review from someone who had a Raptor, I think Toyota should sell the Baja as a TRD Offroad with an option for a hood scoop

Nice to see a good review other than derision. The hood scoop would be a nice option. They're only making a limited number of these right?

    plasti dipped wheel caps,
AGREED with the bulk of what most are saying. that's just too much for a TACOMA. i don't care if the truck comes with every bell and whistle made for it. you won't see me pay that much. not even for the double cab long bed.

There are a number of articles describing the Baja build. The trucks are build at the Tacoma plant in Texas. Bajas start off as TRD Off-Road models and are then driven across the street to a another site where the truck becomes a Baja Edition. The decals are applied, the exhaust sytem is swaped out for the TRD cat-back system, the suspension is "upgraded" to new front coils/shocks, new bump-stops, new rear leaf springs/shocks, and longer rear brake lines. The wheels/tires are added and then PRESTO... you have the Baja Special Edition.

I paid $26,500 for my 08 DC TRD O/R... cash brand new... These are great trucks... but $40k? Not I...

Just curious but why the longer rear brake lines?? What's the purpose?

So they aren't pulled on when the suspension droops out. If you have more travel than break line then they will break loose/rip and you won't have rear brakes
Whenever you get more lift or down travel you wanna just check out your brake lines and make sure they aren't being snagged on when fully drooped out
