Alright guys about 80 minutes ago pulled into this little gravel pullout on the way home. It’s a good place to adjust the rear view camera settings, teach someone to back up a trailer, and at least make sure the truck engages into all the 4WD modes.

Tonight I pulled into the spot and put the transmission into N. Then I turned the dial to 4Hi, then 4Lo in a quick sequence. Next I pushed the rear diff lock button, normally it is smooth and tonight was no different. Then I drove in a straight line for about 20 yards. Here’s the pic of the lights illuminated in 4Lo-Diff lock

Next is when I decided to try something for the hell of it. I put the transmission back into N. Then I turned the dial back to 4Hi and it went in smoothly. At this time the rear diff is still locked. I figured let’s see how far we could push this kitty....Still in neutral and 4Hi with the diff locked I turn the dial to 2Hi. I thought somehow the diff would automatically disengage but it did not. I drove ahead another 7 feet or so and could feel the rear was locked and the only light illuminated was the diff light, I tried to get the dial position in the pic. The pic was taken after driving in 2WD with the rear diff locked. The part that is shining on the dial is a reflection not a center line on the dial. It took me a second to figure it out but I knew someone would see it.

Just to be safe while re engaging a system that isn’t working as designed I made sure to do the sequence the same. So back to N then 4Hi quick sequence to 4Lo. Then I pushed the rear diff button to disengage it. As soon as I reached near lock in the steering wheel the right direction it disengaged and the light went off. Then I turned the dial in a quick sequence back to 4Hi and 2Hi.

Any ideas? I know there is a mod for this but I didn’t do it. I understand the settings on the truck but this is like the completed mod right?

Before I bought the truck it was leased to older guy who drove it for 36,000 miles and traded it in. I bought it brand new with every recall completed and slow grandpa driving. I have completed most prevantitive maintence items at least 2 times. She used to have that little diesel tic but it has matured into a solid sound at 110,000. I’ve never tried to paste a video like I do pictures maybe I’ll try it too....

The mods I have completed are the https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-ultimate-headlight-upgrade-h4-not-led-or-hid.398066/

The head unit, front speakers, and front tweeters have also been replaced. My ground on the headunit May be loose because my camera gets blurry sometimes? Car toys did it! What could I possibly be missing? I will do some re-testing but I figure at least one of you could probably go check this out in the time that it took to create this post.

OH IM NOT AT ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR TRUCK IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG. DO SHIT AT YOUR OWN RISK BE CAREFUL WITH THE SPARK PLUGS IM 24 FOR 24 KNOCK ON DA WOODY.
