I'm curious about what kind of gap you guys have between your hood and grill. I wonder if your hoods are aligned further back then mine; and hence not pinching the gasket tight enough. You can see the gap that I have on mine. It's just a thought.

There is actually a TSB out for this. I just spoke to my dealer this past weekend about it coming from my windshield. They said, no problem and replaced my entire windshield and molding at no cost. Problem fixed, or for now at least.

I need to fix mine!! Mine whistles like crazy and it super loud at 70mph.. :(
not even the stereo can drown it out..

Im going to realign my grill, its off just alittle.. Then Im going to put 1/4" tubing inside the weather stripping.. Im think i may use a rubber or pvc/vinyl hose instead of the poly one.. Isn't the poly one really stiff??

The grill noise is a faint high pitched whistle.

Winshield noise (and possibly side view mirror noise) is a much harsher louder sound.

Used 2012 I just bought from dealer does whistle!
At time of sale, I was told "it is the inline 4!"

Question: For the folks who did the 1/4 tubing fix, do you leave it in when you go anywhere near the service dept? Some posters here reported getting a warning from service that the addition of the 1/4 tubing would void the powertrain warranty (which is quite hilarious by itself!)

It also depends on if you are driving into wind/how strong said wind is. My grille bitched and moaned like a dying cow before I put drip line in the hood seal when I drove into a good headwind at ~70-80 mph. Just adding that in, because the grille can make a ton of noise also.

Have had my drip line in since month 1 of ownership and have never been told anything to that effect. Then again I really like my dealership I go to.

For the grill "camp", would one of these (fancy to me) aftermarket grill fix it?

I have a 2012 that had the whistle, read about the tubing fix here which took care of it and have never given it a second thought. I haven't kept up on this particular forum lately until your/this post. I have zero mechanical knowledge and I sure would not want my powertrain voided, especially with the driveline tsb. Any of you Toyota experts care to respond to OPs post? Thanks, mcdee

I had the whistle on my 2013 DC starting around 40mph. Thank you to the guys that posted about the 1/4" poly tubing fix in the rubber seal between the grill and hood! This worked! It only cost me .69 at Lowes! My kind of fix!

I have a 2103 Tacoma and had the same problem. They replaced the windshield in accordance with the SB and I still had the whistle over 45 MPH. I knew it wasn't the windshield after I drove it home from the dealership with the tape still on the windshield.

Then I saw this post. I went to WalMart, got some fishtank pump tubing, silicone spray, sprayed it into the seal at the center of the hood between the hood and grill and slid the tube in. Total fix was about $8.00.

I fixed it right in the WalMart parking lot! It took me about 5 minutes. YOU WILL NEED LUBRICANT TO FIX IT! I RECOMMEND THE WD40 SILICON!

I went to the dealership and showed the maintenance manager. HE LOVED THE FIX!

I told him the nightmares that some of you were having with the nasty dealerships. He said that he would send the problem and idea to the engineers and work on them getting an SB out there to change the seal to something more ridged.

This is why I like Wyatt Johnson Toyota of Clarksville, TN!

Awesome. Seems that a lot of guys in the thread had their grill replaced to no avail...but I'm not going to read through 10 pages of thread!:)

I'm just glad the whistling stopped! I can love my truck now!

    Your frustration is understandable.

The inexpensive tube fix that people talk about in this thread is simple and effective.

I know that I read somewhere that Toyota is now aware of this problem. Someone in this thread might talk about the specific actions they've taken to get service to remedy the problem.

I have also heard stories that they might void aspects of the warranty for resolving this oneself.

I suggest you write a very clear letter to the head of the service department where you get your truck maintained. I also suggest that you make them aware that there is a very large user base with this problem and point them straight to this thread.

Be ready to get a nonsensical and redundant runaround if you don't go straight to the top.

They are aware of this problem.

It's easy enough to fix on your own with the tubing, and through them it will take time and more annoyance. If you want a fix today, try the small tubing as described above. Since I did it, they have given me no problems about the tubing being there. It would be petty of them to object because I have observed that the tubing causes no damage or other issues.

    Good luck to you.

I have 2012 with the problem. When I went to the dealer they told me to adjust rear view mirror position. OH yeah.
I went look for info on this and found a service bulletin saying the windsheal needs to be reseated.
Went back to the dealer, shut him up right there and got appointment to fix it. Done.
There seems to be another source for the noise which is the hood seal.
    Anyboady checked for service bulletin?

Pretty sure there is a tsb if you dig through this thread. Some guys have said the dealer replaces the entire grill others say they replace the grill seal. Most of the time the dealer won't help with this one. 1/4" piece of drip slid in the grill seal will fix it.

    OK. Glad I found this

I have a whistle sound. Almost like a straw being pulled through a McDonalds lid.

Happens interstate only at about 75 with a strong headwind. Its only intermittent. Gonna try this hope it helps.
