I got 5 feet of 1/4" clear tubing at Home Depot for $3.00 yesterday. It appears to be the same tubing that is used for fish tank air pumps if you have some of that lying around. It was hard to push into the hood gasket, so I sprayed it with window cleaner (aka lube) so it would slide in easier. Drip line only came in 50 ft increments.

I test drove a fresh off the truck 2013 4X4 last week and was disappointed to hear the whistle has not been fixed at the factory by now.

I had my 2012 windshield replaced on warranty...no issues with service whatsoever getting it fixed.

    Howdy folks,
Really glad to have happened upon this thread.

I just recently bought a 2013 Tacoma on Halloween and immediately noticed the "whistling problem right around 40mph."

As per the suggestion of you guys, I wedged a 1/4 inch outer diameter vacuum hose behind the weather proofing where the grill meets the hood.

This seems to have done the trick. I just drove around my neighborhood for several minutes between the speed range where I always get the whistle and it seems to be gone.

My dealer experience was a little sketchy. They mentioned something about this problem in the 2012 model, but then subsequently led me to believe that the problem was in fact my wind guard and could not be fixed. They even told me that the "whistle went away" when they removed the wind guard and drove it(which I was skeptical about).

I told them that I did not want to hear this annoying whistling sound for the duration of the life of the car, and they just kind of shrugged their shoulders and made it seem helpless. They just kinda acted like "uh, we can't really do anything about it."

So consequently it is preposterous that the fix was so easy for me but they(toyota and the dealership) have a hard time reckoning with the resolve themselves. I don't know if the problem can't get solved because of bureaucratic nonsense or politics, but it's pretty pathetic. I bought a 35,000 dollar automobile and they acted like they couldn't do anything to help. Then the solution seemed so simple that it makes them look silly.

I fancy my car as a "perfect" car now.

    I have my dream car.

Apple as a company in contrast has bent over backwards to make things right.

Toyota is amazing, but they really are slow to fix this issue!

I also immediately noticed the windsheild whistling noise when I was driving home on my new 2013 from the dealership...it's sounds like its coming from the left side of the windshield...I will try this trick :D thanks...

I mean you would think Toyota could have a department devoted to small quirks in vehicles, but realistically it probably comes down to Toyota not wanting to setup or pay those people. It is easier for them to let the end consumer either A.) deal with the problem as a "normality" or B.) let consumers come up with their own solution such as what this thread provided.

And even if someone told Toyota how to fix the issue by just putting some 1/4" tubing in the weather seals, they would say "nice to know" and that is it.

Lucky for us Tacomas have one of the BEST user followings, and we can brainstorm and fix issues with each others' help.

And I am glad I do not have a Ford Fusion like my parents own. That thing is constructed on the cheap, has interior door trim that gets sticky and attracts hair and dust, and the dash sounds like it has a nest of crickets having an orgy in it, not to mention the panel on the dash gets deformed in the sun/heat and eventually becomes mishapen and hard to close/open. My point being owning a Tacoma is still definite quality in the vehicle realm, over what else is out there.

The whistle on my truck sounds more like it's coming from one of the passenger doors. Mine happens more around 55-60mph range as well. Hard to diagnose it from the driver's seat though!

Has anyone had a loud, low pitch, whistle from the roof? I have noticed this in my 2012 Access cab over the past few weeks when we have had excessive winds. It only happens at around 65mph when a gust hits, maybe 1-3 secs of noise. I am thinking maybe from the Sat radio antenna.

I had a video but the service manager had a 2011 Tacoma with the same issue so there was no further questions asked.

Yep, I experienced this for the first time last week while driving over 60 MPH with a 30-40 MPH cross wind. I was able to change the intensity of the sound by wedging my finger tips between the driver's door window glass and seal. I experienced it a second time a few days later; again at highway speeds, but this time no excessive cross wind.

I've really started to think I have the same noise as you. It's coming from behind me, not in front so I don't think it's the windshield. Pretty sure the satellite antenna whistles. 55-60mph for me whether there's crosswinds or not.

I certainly will. I am still learning the ins and outs of this site and posting replies etc.. I have an appointment with the dealership on Tuesday for the techs to look into this problem.. I really do not want to mess with installs of new grill or anything else... I talked with the service manager about the high pitch whistling noise and he said he hadnt heard of any problems like this. I am not sure how honest these dealers are these days. Its like take the money and run... I hope this is not the case. I paid a good price for this vehicle and there shouldnt be any annoying sounds from it period
