I certainly will. I am still learning the ins and outs of this site and posting replies etc.. I have an appointment with the dealership on Tuesday for the techs to look into this problem.. I really do not want to mess with installs of new grill or anything else... I talked with the service manager about the high pitch whistling noise and he said he hadnt heard of any problems like this. I am not sure how honest these dealers are these days. Its like take the money and run... I hope this is not the case. I paid a good price for this vehicle and there shouldnt be any annoying sounds from it period

I used the drip line on my 2012 DC, and it worked for about 5 months before I had to replace the drip line due to the rubber staying compressed. Also, got really pissed after the toyota dealer did the windshield tsb, and the grill tsb, then i found this forum, did the mod, and when i went in for my first oil change toyota called and tried to void all factory warranties. Hired a lawyer and toyota paid my lawyer and fees reinstated my factory warranties. However, they say that this is not a problem with the truck,

"certain conditions cause the whistling noise that customers have filed complaints about." "Toyota has determined that this is not a safety related issue, and therefore are not required to take action>"

So, when i graduate from dental school in 2016, I will be going to get a 2500 gmc (have a crawler, and the yota does not like hauling it)

I will never, buy another toyota again based off this experience. Dont get me wrong, I have seen this trucks go through hell and back and yield 300000+ miles, and the resale is awesome, but not the shitty customer service.

I think it's PATHETIC how Toyota deals with this problem. THE ANSWER IS THERE and yet they keep selling trucks without FIXING the problem! STUPID! I solved the issue with the tubing, but it's pathetic how clueless and dumb some of them are at the dealership about this.

I'm glad between you guys I could figure it out.

    My truck is AWESOME!

It's crazy that this is still an issue! Are the still building these truck with shitty window seals? I check one on the lot last time I was in for service and I could lift the whole seal off on one side... Craziness...

My issue was related to the windshield seal and after it was re-seated and re-sealed last July I've had no more issues. However, the roof drip rail trim flew off on the freeway a few months ago and was replaced under dealer warranty. Was probably not properly reinstalled by the windshield installer.

Im a little lost here, is the fix the weatherstrip below the hood or the windshield reseal? This thread is very confusing, some are saying that the tubing in the weatherstrip is THE fix and yet people keep chiming in about having their windshields resealed.

I have had my windshield re-sealed, the problem i'm having, is the weatherstripping between the hood and the grill, after about 2 months the 'fix' (1/4" drip line from Lowes) gets depressed enough that it will start whistling again. I am very unsatisfied with not only the dealer but Toyota for essentially pushing off the complaint as a non-safety issue. However, the one complaint we have had about our Rx 350 has been fixed within a week. I just dont understand how a 30+ thousand dollar truck can have such an annoying issue.

So the windshield reseal was not a fix?

No it didnt fix mine, and I did the Grille TSB update as well, the only way I can cure the whistle is a new 1/4 drip line every few months. or adjust the hood down to the point you can see the adjustment. I have tried a few other drip lines.

It still could be the windshield because the dealer refused to pull the windshield out then reseal it, they just placed more sealant around it. Toyota says its up to the dealer, and that if that is what the dealer did then the TSB is done. Toyota also threatened to void my factory warranty, got a sweet letter in the mail stating that "no engine components will be covered unless all weatherstripping from the hood is not restored to factory settings". All because of putting in the drip line. I still have it in there, but remove it when I need something done. = pain in the a**, I guess someone at Greenville toyota in greenville, NC turned me in on it? they say they didn't, but after my first oil change i got the letter. Overall not very happy with customer service at the dealer or via toyota phone support.

Get a new dealer.. My dealership replaced my windshield seal 3 times and removed the glass each time. The first time totally fixed the noise but I could lift up on the seal in a few spots so I told them f$&k that do it right...
They did it again and the next time i was washing the truck I noticed it pulled up again... So the service manager took it to the glass place himself and got them to do it. The one thing they found was if after the install and new seal If you closed the door with no windows open it would pop the seal if it hasn't fully cured...

Thank you for the clarification. Its kind of hard to understand which repair fixes the whistling sound, the drip rail mod or the windshield based on the variance of posts on this thread.

So after filing a complaint through the main toyota phone line, meeting with the regional service manager (didnt know they existed) and having him take the truck for about 150 miles he said this is pretty ridiculous. They re-sealed the window again, and replaced the grill again. No dice. After that they said that is all they could do, not a safety issue. So, my tacoma was paid off, went the the GMC dealer next door, bought a 2012 sierra 1500 All Terrain. Toyota did have good value, number wise they technically gave me 500 more than i walked out the door at the dealer with at the time. So that proves toyotas hold there re-sale! We have a lexus RX 350 that we love, so I dont hate toyota, but dislike the actual toyota side of the business. I just wish that this was not happening to any of us. I will post some pics of the GMC sometime, really happy with it, especially no whistle, and it has a cargo light!!! Which i really missed. I am going to miss the MPG the yota was pulling though, and the fact that i could park it anywhere i wanted to without any problems.

    No shit. What's next?

Alot of guys were having issues with the windshield seals pre 2012. Christ I just had my clutch and flywheel replaced under warranty - 28k miles.

I was having the whistle noise. Bought some 1/4 inch outside diameter hose and inserted in the hood weather striping. Had to use a little WD40 to get it in. Noise Gone!!

    AWESOME!!!

So I bought my first Toyota a couple weeks ago and this whistling noise has been driving me crazy. Today I taped up my windshield and still had the noise. Then did the next best thing...... did a search on TW and found your thread. So before I left work, I taped up the hood and viola. NO NOISE. I will be installing that tubing here in a few minutes. You da Bomb!

I find it hugely ironic and pathetic how Toyota has not caught up to this problem.

I can't imagine what takes so long.

It's ironic because I think they sell more Tacomas than anything else. This problem is so common place.

I fixed mine, but I can't help but be annoyed at their clueless helplessness. They just stare at you like, "uh, we can't really do anything about it."

Meanwhile, I fixed it in two seconds.

Considering how great Toyota is at making cars, I find their inability to inform about and fix this problem, or even notify dealerships about its existence...it's all pathetic.

It's mind blowing how easy it was to fix, and yet they sent me home with a 35000 dollar car and a whistle noise that was ZERO percent acceptable.
