yup, OP has a 2012, was gonna say the air injection system. pretty common with the 2012's unfortunatly due to lack of shutdown purge that the 2013+'s have.

    shutdown purge.

When you turn the truck off, the air injection system turns on, opens the valves and blows fresh air through the system to purge the valves of any moisture buildup that accumulated while the truck was running.

Maybe February? My valves had already been replaced under my extended warranty.

There is a thread on here that talks about that and a kit that is available. Seems for some it works great and others had issues.

My understanding is there is a change in the valve system on the 2013 that made it more reliable than the 2012. I also understand that the replacement is the later valve system.

I would ask for my $50 bucks back OP. Its a known issue and other members haven't paid a dime to have it fixed.

on the 2012 v6's there is no shutdown air purge, 2013 they added in the coding to do so on the v6's

FYI 2012 was the first year the V6 got the air injection pump. i4's have had them since the beginning.

The pcm software is written (coded) to simply turn the pump on for a second and clear out any moisture before shutoff. Mine does it every time i shut the truck down

In 2012 the pump was on there for the first time and they hadn't thought about the purge cycle during shutoff.. yet.. it took a few  failures to get them thinking about how to protect the pump.

Nothing gets the phones ringing in the engineering department like a few thousand pump/valve failures! Lol! IIRC it was basically just the 2012s that fail. By the next model year they had figured it out

Pretty sure they would introduce the fix as soon as possible so if yours is a later model 2012 it might not be affected?

Different ECU coding, when you turn the truck off, it runs the pump for x amount.

2012 trucks dont do the shutdown purge at all, the air pump only runs for the first 15 seconds or so right when the motor is started cold and ambient temps are above a certain temp (40*F i think).

2013+ v6 trucks do the same plus a 5-10 second run of the pump right as you shut it down. I suppose you could make a switch to open the air injection valves and turn on the pump to simulate the shutdown purge on a 2012 truck.

Thanks but check the date of this post - this happened to me almost three years ago. Before it was a well known issue and covered by Toyota at 100%. My truck is an early 2012 (I drove it home in December 2011) so this problem happened to hit me earlier than most.

Before my trac off light and my check engine light came on my air injection pump was making a loud noise only on a cold start for 30 seconds. I went to get the codes checked yesterday and they said it’s my air injection pump then today I go to merge on the interstate and my truck didn’t accelerate as fast as it should’ve. Just wondering if y’all think I need a new pump or what. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!

what codes? Both the valves and pump is covered by corporate if you have the codes needed. If lack of power your in limp mode now. My dealer replaced valves and pump, also given a loaner car for two day.

P2441 is the code. Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck closed bank 1 is what it says it is. I have 73k miles so I’m not sure if it’s under warranty
