That was the code before it went into limp mode? Is the check engine light back on?

Recheck the codes now that it's limp mode. It free at most part stores. You need to have p2440 or p2442 to be covered and replaced. Don't clear the codes as they need to be seen by the dealer.

I first had p0418 when I went to get it checked at the dealership. told not the right code to be covered, they cleared the code and following week light came back on and truck was in limp mode. I then had codes p0418,p2440, p2442 listed.

SPC UCA. Be sure your standing on the drivers side when reading the instructions! I swapped sides so many times that I can swap UCA’s in 15 minutes. I put in the 3/4” spacer to eliminate the Taco Lean, and just got my 4th alignment. Traded the OEM rims for 17” Sport rims and a bora bora 1” spacer. I got my Firestone 285/70/17 MT2’s. Pelfreybilt gas tank skid and hi-lift jack should be here Friday. Looking at bumpers, but I think they will wait for next year. So far I’m happy with my build. I’ve done it all myself, leading to a lot of cussing and frustration, but it’s all mine.
So this just happened on mine too, and I have the recall notice.

I’ve removed the carbon filter in the air cleaner assembly.

Thinking I should put that back in before I take it to the dealer?

I put it back just in case. Dealers little code reader picked up 16 total codes. Air pump valves had thrown several of them.

Hay! Anyone have this happen on 2014 or 2015 Tacos? OR have you had it happen with no check engine light? My '14 see some to have the same symptoms but after its warmed up and specifically sincerely it's gotten wetter up here in the PNW. I get barely any power after a stop and it's struggling to get up to speed. I can stomp of the accelerator and and it takes a couple seconds to react then the rpms go 4k and still struggling. After it goes through this cycle it runs relatively normal EXCEPT it still feels under power and you can feel the engine lightly sputtering under consistent acceleration. Again, it's happened twice to me and I got no codes or additional lights on the dash. I pulled the MAF and cleaned it after the first in I, with sensor cleaner and it seemed to return to normal, but the issue reared it's head again yesterday. Dealership has it now and is saying nothing is wrong.

This happened to me this Morning. I left home to start my hour commute and the truck would not go past 45mph. I drove straight to Toyota and explained the issue to the Service Manager. They are fixing the issue free of charge. Got lucky on this one.

What did they say the issue was?
I'm still periodically dealing with the issue, generally when it's wet out I find.

I have this saved to my computer as I have a 2012.
You will need to check the truck's production date to see if it applies.

The issue was that the air switching valve and the air injection pump had bad. At least thats what I was told.

I had this happen several years ago around 40K miles. Corporate wouldn't do anything. I bypassed it with the Hewlett Module and have 85K on it now.

Going to setup a time to finally go get it replaced but I think I need to take the bypass back out and just haven't had the extra time to do that since the TSB came out to cover it.
I will def be putting the bypass back in after they replace the parts. This will fail again and I rather just wait until I sell it one day to take the bypass out and the new owner have fresh parts never used as they won't replace the part again I am sure.

Thanks for this...I've always wondered what that noise was...seemed like a lot of battery energy use when the engine was off and not recharging!!

I've been dealing with this for a couple months. I originally had evap codes, so I replaced the canister and gas cap. Next step was going to be remove bedrack/tent and the bed to replace all the hoses.

I think I'll check the codes and inquire as to whether it could be the secondary air pump and extended warranty. I'd love for Toyota to fix this instead of me!

Just wanted to update with my current situation. I read the codes and have P2440 and P2442. Just have to drop off the truck at a dealer to confirm and set up service. I'll update once I get through that process. This thread was a life saver, thanks to all that have contributed!

I wanted to update with my results. Took it into the dealer and confirmed the codes. They fixed it under the secondary air injection pump campaign listed in this thread. You guys are life savers!

Me? Nothing. The previous, a lot.
Anyone know if the codes are required for this repair/replacement? This happened to me a few months ago and I think I cleared it (or may have to just removed the battery for a few minutes), however, I did get the notice.

I fixed it by beating the crap out of it with an wrench I had....

I'm pretty sure they are required as noted previously in this thread. I know when I called they asked if the codes we're currently present. I can tell you that it progressively gets worse or mine did. I got a week with battery reset at first, then 5 miles at the end. Good luck
