What did it take for the wiring for the backup camera?

I had previously purchased a used tailgate handle with the camera mount and the rostra kit is designed to mount in the Toyota factory mount. I bought the Rostra kit and it was pretty straight forward. There is one pin on I think the 28 pin radio harness that has to be inserted, and one wire that taps into the reverse lights under the driver side kick panel. The rest of the wires just get fished out of the cab and back to the tailgate. I did drill out a larger access hole in the bottom of the tailgate.

They have a video on the site describing the install in the tailgate for a pre-wired truck, but it doesn't show what you have to do in the cab. Install is similar on a non pre-wired truck. They do provide instructions describing what you do with the wiring.

Plenty of wire, I think I looped the extra cable twice inside the tailgate. Ill have to get a picture later. It looks like a factory install which to me was what I was going for. :) The camera is slightly recessed in the tailgate handle so you don't really see it unless you bend down and look for it.

The only thing that is slightly off is the image displayed is slightly shifted to one side. you can see it in the radio image i loaded previously. I think this is because the camera is mounted slightly off center in the tailgate handle. By design the mount location is not in the center of the tailgate. :notsure:

I have a 2011 that I've installed a 2014 entune in. I have been told multiple answers about the antenna adapter blue wire and where to add it. I have been told +constant, ignition acessory. If anyone has installed one please let me know what color and function wire I need to tie into.

if i were you i would go aftermarket.
i did this swap and got rid of it after a few years.
Only reason i held onto it for so long was because i didn’t want to dish out $600 on a aftermarket wireless carplay unit
But when i did i had absolute 0 regrets doing it.

The factory units aren’t loud and they sound like complete shit

Do you need to buy the mic too? We’re planning on ordering these harnesses, but doesn’t want to spend the extra $50 since he already has an OEM mic
