Down here the 16s are selling like hotcakes.

    And so are the 15s.

    And the 14s...

    ...and 13s...

    ...and 12s (etc., ad nauseum).

Tacomas are in high demand in Texas, and there are specialty used car lots that snag them during trade-ins, make 'em nice, and sell them high. There's a lot I pass about once a month on the southwest side of Austin that tends to have anywhere between one to two dozen Gen 2s and a few Gen 1s. They're always different when I go by.

Do not trade unless you want to take it in the shorts for 3 to 5 G's.

Same here. They all sell like crazy. A few months ago some one ran into me and totaled out my '14. I was on the fence between the '15 & '16. The dealer said they could not keep either on the the lot. And the '15 with 20K miles on them were selling for the same price as when they were new. At that point it was an easy decision to go with a '16

    He is full of it.

At least here in SoCal the 2nd gens still are hot.
I've seen Tacomas with 20k miles at dealers where there asking more than original sticker price for the vehicle.

Exactly, he is just trying to give you a perception that the vehicle is not in demand so that he can low ball you and turn it for a huge profit.

Oh I laughed so fucking hard in his face, the head looser Sales King Pin came over and asked if there was a problem. I just kept laughing and walked out the door.

Salespeople make the mistake (IMO) of generalizing and treating most customers as if they know nothing. It becomes evident when they start spouting off about vehicle features that they clearly know nothing about or are flat out incorrect on their "facts".... To their defense there are A LOT of morons out there and most morons also have to buy a car at some point.

Asking and selling are two way different numbers on a used vehicle unless the buyer is a complete moron. Also, there is not a lot of profit margin on new cars. Dealers will try to make up the difference on the trade. Low ball the trade in and show a little off of the MSRP of the new truck. I would think Toyota probably doesn't have a whole lot of incentives on the Tacoma except for financing and lease deals. They don't have a problem selling them.

I know that when I bought my '16 the sales manager told the sales people "no more deals on Tacomas." They were selling them to fast. luckily I kinda knew the sales manager and got a decent price

Each to their own. My experience has been different. If they "low ball", I walk. Bottom line when dealing with a dealer I have a certain number in mind of what I am willing to pay + trade. When I purchased my 06, I told one dealer you can give me 1 penny for my trade. But if you do you are coming way down on what you will get for the new vehicle.

Guess I have been lucky not to have some ridiculous offer given for a trade. At a Jeep dealer we got above high trade in value for her Liberty. Also got more than 12K off the msrp on a Grand Cherokee. That was a few years ago.

They offered me $26000 on my 2015 DCLB Sport 4WD with 3'' lift and tires/wheels. I literally told him to kick rocks. They had a 2012 on the lot, DCSB SR5 asking $30k. Hate Toyota scum dealers, this is the second one who low balled me.

Carmax is a rip and waste man. Better off selling private. Especially if you have mods, carmax is a joke. I had a 05 silverado with less than 50Kmiles- took to them in 06/07 KBB on my truck was 17,500 and they offered my like 10K and they said would have offered more if I had a stk head unit. I sold it for 16K on truck trader.

I remember when I was first looking at tacomas back in 2009. There is a dealer in San Diego area that all they sell are used Tacomas- crazy how much they mark up!

Carmax offered me 19k for my 2011 BMW 335d with less than 40k miles on it and 2 years remaining fully transferable CPO warranty. The car was in cherry condition inside/out. I sold it to private party for 23,500 not two weeks later. It just took finding the right buyer (someone who was in love with German Diesels) with the money. I went to 4 dealerships and the best I got offered for trade on that car was 19,500. There was no way I was going to trade-in or sell to carmax.

I will wait a few years anyway until all the kinks are fixed. Ha ha ha ha that's funny I just laughed at myself. They don't even have all the kinks fixed in the 2005 to 2015 models.
