128,000. I would buy the new Tacoma first, and swap all the compatible parts from my old one on to the new one before selling it. Then drive the 2015 to whatever mileage, then hopefully by then Ill have a decent job and upgrade to a supercharged 4runner and have a fun little project car to keep my manual driving habits in check, maybe a st185 or st205 celica gt4

I agree with the folks here mentioning that an ECU tune to reduce rev hang and deleting the clutch accumulator/shuttle valve improve the shifting of the 6-speed.

In addition, I noticed when I switched to a one piece drive shaft and a heavier leaf pack in the rear that shifting also felt better.

With all the above my 2011 with 80k on it finally feels like it shifts better than my 2003 4-cyl did, which is ridiculous that it took that much modification - but it is a blast to drive now. My only real beef with it at this point is the absurdly short 6th gear - drives me nuts to suck so much extra gas at freeway speeds.

In general I don't think these transmissions suffer from widespread synchro issues, so if you're going to keep it and put in a new trans maybe look into getting an FJ Cruiser 6-speed - I am not sure if the output shaft has the same # of splines as the Taco tranny, but if it does it would get you slightly better gear ratios.

I think a low mile trans off of Car-part.com would be where I would look if I were in your shoes.

Highway mileage is about 3 mpg less and you can tow a camper at highway speeds in 6th but not with the automatic with out it constantly shifting. I have done nothing to mine but drive it no delete this or that or a reflash. Yes the release bearing makes a little noise in neutral idling and it has since new but only when cold and frankly I don't have a tendency to flip out over some thing will be replaced when I do the clutch at maybe 200+K

The best option for the 4.0 is through HPTuners equipment and software package - which is actually great because they are one of the bigger players in the US.

You don't have to be a tech wizard to pull it off - but it can be a lot of info to digest at the beginning. I would read up in this thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hp-tuners-for-2005-2015.600793/

The thread is long, but the summary is:
-If you have a buddy or can find a speed shop with the HPTuners cable that will help you out you'll need to "buy" 4 "universal credits" from HPTuners to allow you to tune your vin-specific ECU for $200.
-If you have to or want to buy the cable for yourself that's another $300
-At this point, you are able to start making changes to a number of parameters of the engine and transmission control system (including getting rid of the rev hang!)
-Easy thing to do is send your stock file to @JustDSM, he will make changes based on your set-up, and send you back a tuned file to flash to the truck (for a very nominal fee in my opinion).
-You can take some logs using the HPTuners software and a laptop to see how things look and he can make further adjustments if needed.
