hey everyone i got a question i have 2013 Tacoma access cab prerunner with a 4cyl it has a set of brand new 265 75 16 bfg all terrains, i just bought a 22 foot pathfinder boat with a yamaha 200 it will be ready in about a month to pick up, so i live about 2 miles from the boat ramp, i plan to buy a old f250 to pull a new camper i want to buy soon anyways, but does anyone think the 4cyl prerunner will have any problems pulling the boat up the concrete landing ? i been towing boats and trailers for many years so i know how protocols for launching, just don't want to be laughed at the landing, the boat will weight about 4000 pounds or more, i only need to tow it 2 miles and launch it ?? should i be nervous ??? your thoughts thank you

If you have good traction I wouldn't see you having a problem. I doubt you'd be laughed at either. 4000lbs is a good size, but only 2 miles down the road should pose no issues. Boats are much more aerodynamic than travel trailers too, so really I'm sure that 4 banger would do great.

Do you have a LSD or anything like that? That might help on a slippery boat ramp, but I still don't think you'd have an issue.

Pulling up the ramp will be pretty tough actually for a 4000 pound boat. My boat isn't near that much weight and I pull it up the ramp in 4lo with zero problems, in two wheel its a little worrisome, but it does it.

Yea the extra torque on 4LO I bet makes it a LOT easier.

I release the clutch and it just rides right up almost.

A steep, wet ramp with a heavy boat and a 4x2, under equipped small truck is a pucker moment.

    Ask me how I know..

I used to do it a with a 2006 Tacoma Prerunner SR 4x2 but it did have the v6. Then did it with the 2011 Prerunner Sport with Limited slip, did it much better. Then a Chevy Silverado 4x2 with the G80 locker and a v8, it never even cared. Haven't tried with new truck, but sure it would do better.

A 4cyl should have plenty of power to do it, traction is the issue, hence the LSD question. The tires he has are solid, so I was hoping for the best.

Also, not all boat ramps are made the same, I'd pick an often used one that's not too steep if you could. That should keep the slime down on the ramp.

Power and gearing wise, its no issue at all. The 2wd part might be a bit concerning, but only at the ramp itself. Bring a comealong and rope/cable/chain enough to hook onto something in case you can't get the traction you need.
