So I know there are 100 threads on here for guys looking to get more performance from the 2.7L motor but everything is very old info and I would like some first hand info on things used thats really helped guys. I know a chip, programmer, cold air, or exhaust isn't going to get me 100hp but im wanting to find something to give me noticeable HP/TQ. Every shop here in the metro where I am laughs when I ask if they would install a turbo setup so getting that put on here in Oklahoma is apparently out because I could purchase something but without software to install I would be S.O.L. Any help is appreciated...

    Welcome.

If it were me.. I'd probably not bother trying to squeeze more power out of the 2.7 and opt to swap in a 4.0 for the same amount of money, with more reliability.

I gotcha.. I think dollar for HP, though.. that the same amount of money a V6 swap would cost, you'd end up with more reliable power than a turbo'd 2.7. Just a thought anyway.

I hear you on the desire for more out of the motor, I have a 2.7 as well and while it's fine 95% of the time, the 5% of the time is hard to overlook. Mileage has suffered significantly after a mild lift and slight weight increase to my tires, which are still a mild AT (P265/75/16 Cooper ATP).

Like in the thread I posted it says how doing a full exhaust system is pointless. You get the best bang for your buck with just doing the muffler. And I believe it is a flowmaster 50 something series. There are even dyno results posted.

Don't chip it. You'll get nothing but less reliability. @tooter can you hook this guy up with some of your 4 banger wisdom. Tooter managed to get some very respectable gains and a shift in the torque curve with a combination of intake, headers, and exhaust modifications.

Among other things, like a power steering delete. Spacers aren't being produced any longer either, so while the information is good on that thread, OP.. it isn't exactly repeatable.

Hahahaha its all good. I was just referencing it. Tooter, is the main guy who posted the real verifiable gains in there. So for gains on a 4banger he is the main but a lot of his wisdom is in that thread

Tooter can still provide some insights to OP. Better than reading through the thread is hearing what worked and didn't right from the source. I doubt any of us has more experience milking more out of a 2.7 L engine than Tooter.

OP, please don't chip your motor. Chipping the Tacoma with a generic tuner never ends well.

Oh, and I'm going to get flack for this, the best way to get more power out of the Tacoma is to trade in for the V6. Small decrease in mileage for large gains in power at a relatively small cost compared to putting a URD blower on the I4.

Yes, but Tooter talks about a lot of things in his thread that aren't easily repeatable anymore. For OP Tooter can give him a simple answer of what Tooter would try with what's available right now, which is an opinion I would trust.

Magnaflow 22 inch is quiet. Tooter liked it IIRC.

I just think it is interesting that people regularly turbo the 2rz and 3rz, but have not hardly done near anything with the 2TR.

I know of only one guy in Saudi Arabia doing a 2TR s/c install, as well as wiring in an aftermarket ecu. Also did a write-up on the ecu pinout.

Don't mean to jump in on this thread, but how much mpg did you lose with the increase in tire size? I'm lifting my truck 3" and going to run 285/70/17.

Toyota doesn't want people messing up their ECU. That is all.

Nope. Lots of companies don't give up there code. It's not that they are hiding anything. They just don't provide all of the information to third party companies to access and rewrite their software.

You may want to shine up your tinfoil hat a bit.
