Last time we went shooting some Jeep club ended up coming to our spot so we had to leave and ruining our day. Long story short 2 of the 6-7 jeeps had to be left where they died and one blew a clutch.

This is after one of the guys made a comment about being surprised a Taco made it down the trail. Of course he had to leave his Jeep in the bush over night and get a ride home haha

If your so worried about features why would you buy a 2013 without features...

    Good story.

And oh yeah, you have changed my mind. I'll take a new Tacoma with front and rear lockable limited slips, heated seats and mirrors, sunroof, navigation and 32 inch truly offroad tires.

Please excuse my sarcasm, but were any of those features available on a 2012 Tacoma?

When I bought my truck, my plan was to get a base model with already decent base options, and add only what I wanted, as opposed to how Toyota forces you into getting stuff you don't want or need (to be fair, most manufacturers do this.) Being impatient, the process is taking a little longer than anticipated, but I'll get there. The JKUR I drove had everything I wanted and nothing I didn't, which made it very, very tempting. Ultimately the Tacoma won the decision, again, and now I feel like I've got a new head of steam for my build.

On the other hand, I went wheeling with a bunch of folks, and 2 of the trucks (Tacomas) broke on the trail, and a jeep club passed us, like the trail was nothing. Trail breakage mostly depends on how the vehicle is maintained, and the driver. I can break any vehicle in 15 mins on a trail. Its not too hard.

THIS IS the answer to ALL......Pay to play...I have seen brand new Jeeps and FJ's expected to "Perform" with novices behind the wheel..."Hello AAA, my >>>>> is out on Class 6 # 3 with an OOPs...":p..

Jeep is throwing the $$$$ incentives to the customers right now and New England sales are flying out the door...Now if Warranty and CSR can keep up...Toyota better be on their game....;)

CSR seems to be unreal with the Jeeps. I read one guy who had an '12, and had a roof leak. Jeep bought it back. Another guy had a clockspring/wireharness issue, had it in service 3 times, and not only did they buy his Jeep back, but they let him custom order a new one, with whatever options he wanted, for the same price as the Sport X that he bought! AND they gave him a loaner car until his jeep was delivered! If a Jeep goes into the service dept., with an issue that cant be duplicated, the issue is still logged, and Jeep engineers are notified. Rather than simply telling the customer "sorry, we cant duplicate it, therefore, it isn't happening". AND....this is the kicker......They cover shit that breaks off road!

To be honest Toyota is known for their reliability while Dodge/Jeep isn't.

Anecdotal evidence doesn't really prove any thing either way though. However, a Consumer Reports put out a report on vehicle reliability that showed Jeeps on average have about 2 issues each fresh off the lot while Tacoma's were under 1. Someone posted it on this forum I'll see if I can find it.

Your probably gonna need that amazing warranty which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I hate having to deal with broken shit. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Just do like we did. Keep the taco and have your wife / girlfriend / fiance or whatever end up liking the Rubicons and trade their ride in for one. Now I got my choice on what iI wanna drive. :)

Good to see Chrysler is at least standing by their product with the head and other stuff..and hooking people up with rental cars. I had a similar issue with my Chevy Colorado truck and GM did nothing to help me..weren't even going to honor the head warranty till I showed it to them, and even that shop 4 weeks later refused to fix it.

I still can't ever understand why anybody would ever buy a Chrysler product. Ever, even at half price, or with a million mile warranty.

Jeep wheels are balls ugly but rubicons are kinda cool with their transfer case gearing and doodads. Too bad they drive like shit and feel really cheap.

You clearly havent driven one. Only issue with the ride is recirc/ball steering. But all solid front axel vehicles have that.

I was really impressed on how they drove (unlimiteds). very solid, no noise or rattles, etc. Steering was tight, and the suspension was very well put together. What was it that you didnt like?

How would I know they drive terrible then? Actually drove a 2013 jeep wrangler last week. And yeah, it feels like shit. Sloppy and loose. Suspension off the lot is mediocre at best. Nothing close to the smooth solid feel of a stock Tacoma. Hell, my tacoma is sloppier than a factory taco, and it felt way tighten than this jeep with 3000 miles on it. They have some wicked bump steer too.

Must have been an issue with the suspension. With 4+* of caster on the front end, bump steer is the last thing I notice.
