It is an easy fix but I stand on principle & accountability so I will hold them accountable. It wasn't a matter of the $$ as it's a cheap enough fix even the local dealer will install the Gentex mirror w/temp for only $75 if I provide the mirror. Principle put me in a position to not need to work any longer at the ripe old age of 56 & now just do whatever I chose & enjoy the "American" way :D But then that may seem rediculous or excessive as well but it works for me.

I love the lawsuit talk. Kills me. If it's not on the sticker of your truck, you have nothing to sue over. So Toyota made a mistake in some of the brochures/literature. Mistakes happen. You took delivery as is, so drive it as is.

Agreed. It's stuff like this that makes companies use all the cover your a$$ language at the back of the brochures, websites, etc. Which includes:

This new "American" way just feeds the pockets of lawyers.

    Sorry for being off topic.

Nothing major planned, this is my daily driver. - replaced stock tires with Cooper AT3s - added Husky WeatherBeater floor mats - installed Access Original bed cover - installed Gentex 453 mirror and the included external temp sensor, also has Homelink and auto-dim - installed ImMrYo mirror bracket - hose clamp mod and washer mod to secure tailgate, with a GateKeeper lock installed over the hose clamp - replaced stock reverse lights with Philips Halogen 30w from Home Depot GY6.35 base
I installed the Gentex 453 purchased from RJP869 in my 2014 Off Road, and have lots of install pics on this thread.

just picked up my 2014 yesterday...

MD, thanks for the link to your write up.

for anyone that has accessed the rearview mirror power connector. is it possible to pull the connector out of the front side of the overhead liner? or is it best to remove the console?

best gentex model w/ homelink, auto dim and wo/ temp? OEM mirror?

i think i'm on board now. i pm'ed RJP869 for pricing on a gentex 453. i may just hook up the temp sensor and leave it in the overhead consold.

    Another happy customer from RJP869!

Installed my Auto Dim / Home Link / Compass mirror tonight and was much much easier than I would have expected. Actually the hardest part of the install was figuring out my garage door opener as I have the type that has a learn button on the garage door motor. I didn't go with the temp sensor version as I have Entune HD so as long as I am in radio range I always have the weather on my radio anyway so didn't make sense to spend the extra $

The actual install would have taken maybe 10min if I wasn't so concerned about cracking the overhead console, but rest assured it's a pretty substantial piece of plastic so not an issue. Just be warned that when the front part of the console comes loose it really pops down quick so try to support it in the vertical direction while pulling the front part down.

Oh yeah and a final note, I noticed while driving around tonight that the new mirror has a much wider field of view which allows me to see almost the entire back window now. I am a pretty big fan of Toyota cars / trucks but really disappointed they removed this feature as I think it really adds to the truck.

I also installed a center console cover which was purchased from http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...e/272833-fs-armrest-center-console-cover.html

Sorry about the crappy pic of the mirror.

I have a 2012 homelink/compass/temp/back up camera and was wondering if I could make it work in a new 2014? Would I be able to plug it into the 3 wire connector and at least have the auto dim and compass work?

Seems doable, I would get with RJP869, he might be able to just sell you a wire harness or at least let you know its a problem with the mirror you have.

Had it put in by a gentech dealer in my 2014. I wanted the outside temp function so they had to run the sensor wire to the harness. Works as advertised.

Just received and installed my mirror from RJP869 (Bob) yesterday. I bought a used mirror (auto dimming and homelink only) and it is flawless.

The mirror included a "plug & play" install kit (wire harness, wire cover & instructions) and took me less than 10 min. to install and program the homelink.

Thanks to this thread, Toyota (for including the wire harness) and Bob this was a piece of cake to install.

Don't waste your time looking anywhere else buy Bob's plug & play kit! and get the used mirror - they are like new...

Got mine today. Ordered used ones, they look excellent! Thanks Bob!

Only took about 5 minutes to get it in, then about 10 to read the instructions and program/calibrate it haha. Ordered a second one for my Dad too that I'll be putting in for the old man this weekend. :p

I don't have a Tacoma, but lots of mirrors!
Hey everyone - I just wanted to take a moment and say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has purchased a mirror from me. I greatly appreciate the business!! :)

I also wanted to mention to anyone else wanting one of these, please PM me on the forum and I'll do my best to get back to you quickly. Now...I do work during the day so I may not be able to respond quick if I'm tied up with something at the office, but as soon as I have a free moment I'll be sure to get right back to you.

Also - PM is the best way to get ahold of me and also the way to get the best price on the mirror, and not thru ebay. I can't offer the same discounted price on ebay as I do on TW because of all the fees  ebay charges.

    Again - thanks!!!
