Unfortunately they are not all prewired for camera, even though the harness is in the tailgate. I posted a summary here:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...camera-install-base-2014-a-2.html#post8800144

If you are considering a factory Toyota camera this is something to look at before spending the money because there will be no easy way to interface the camera to the radio if you are not pre-wired.

Update on the Pop 'n Lock latch w/ integrated camera from Camera Source-

My truck came pre-wired all the way to the latch and in hindsight installing just the camera would have been easiest (found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181439348432).

Pulling-out the existing wire was a bit of a pain, but the Camera Source set-up does come with a few mounting brackets along the write to secure their wire along the inside of the tailgate.

I was able to key my ignition key to the back without a problem and the camera functions as intended.

I'm a bit disappointed with the feel of the latch when opening, as the construction doesn't feel as sturdy as the factory latch. We'll see if this proves to be a long-term durability and reliability issue. Will keep the factory latch just in-case.

Net-net: if you're sure you're wired front-to-back, just go with the plug & play camera from midwestgreenparts1. It's a bit pricey considering you're not getting a locking latch, but it will be the quickest and will preserve your factory latch. If, on the other hand, you're worried about some crackheads stealing your lift-gate, the security of the Pop 'n Lock is worth the time and effort.

I installed the Camera Source with Pop N Lock with back up camera with ease.

Anything to discourage the rednecks and crackheads from sealing my tailgate is a PLUS IMHO

My 2015 had all the positive signs - sticker back by the tailgate, warning notice on the display on startup, etc. Bought the one from midwestgreenparts1 on ebay. Got it in 2 days, took about 5-10 minutes start to finish to remove the tailgate cover and plug it in then put back together. Works like a charm! Good visibility in the dark too, but I don't have anything to compare that to for reference.

Good to know that this is working out on the 2015's. I've got about a dozen or so of them left, and I doubt I'm getting any more in.

Anyhow, we still haven't solved this for everyone. I get a return on about 1 out of 10 cameras that show all the "Right" signs that Dale put together. I can't figure it out. Anyhow, glad they are working in the 2015 models. Usually Toyota does long part runs.

Unfortunately, my 2014 Tacoma is not prewired for the backup camera (only a single, blue wire goes from the tailgate to the cab). I have a regular cab and I notice that the three other owners posting to the forum that their Tacomas aren't prewired also have regular cabs. Likewise, I don't see anybody with an access or double cab saying they aren't prewired. I detect a pattern.

I bought an OEM fit camera from ebay for $130. The seller did me a solid by offering local pick-up and free installation. It works great.

I am getting a rear bumper with tire carrier and need a rear camera extension cable.... Anyone know where to get one? Interested in the aforementioned and possibly a bracket to weld on the tire carrier to hold the camera as well. Any input would be beneficial. Thanks guys.

I'm having a bear of a time trying to get the Camera-Source camera to work in my 2014 Tacoma. I was not pre-wired. All wiring is getting the expected charge. When I put the truck in park, there is no change on screen. I just called Support today, and they had me use the wire without the special pin. No luck. Any ideas?

All 2014 Tacomas should have all the wiring for the camera already installed. I had the base model and it had all the wiring already there and the only thing I did was order a stock camera that goes in the tailgate handle and replaces the plastic filler piece. If you're installing an aftermarket camera then I have no idea

Thank you for your reply. However, that's not the case. It is well documented on TacomaWorld that some 2014 Tacomas are not pre-wired for the backup camera. I'm hoping to receive help from someone who purchased one of these trucks, and successfully installed this setup.

Did you take off the plastic cover on the inside of your tailgate to see if it has the wiring in there?

I had the base model 4x4 and it had all the factory wiring up to where the camera was mounted but mine had the plastic dummy piece in there instead of the camera. The only thing I did was put in a factory camera and it worked with no other modifications. If you don't have the harness that's in the tailgate then you can also order that online as well.

Yes, the wiring exists in the tailgate. However, the wiring does not proceed forward into the cab, to be plugged into the radio. In the back of the radio, the plug is missing, and the radio does not recognize that the camera exists.
